STV is Hiring an Architect Designer Near Baltimore, MD

STV is an international multidiscipline engineering/architectural consulting and construction management company performing over $300 million in revenue annually. Our award-winning portfolio within the Buildings (& Facilities) Division includes engineering and architectural assignments within the Federal, Educational, Institutional, Justice and Environmental market sectors.

We currently have an opening in our Owings Mills, MD practice for an Architectural Designer with our Buildings & Facilities division.

The candidate should be a self-starter with a passion for problem solving, an understanding that project success comes through teamwork, and a firm focus on client needs.

This role emphasizes design, production, and delivery, with the ability to develop both professionally and personally. The ideal candidate is self-motivated with a solid technical foundation allowing them to work independently. Key responsibilities will include working with, and coordinating, an architectural/engineering team in preparing documents for projects. The ideal candidate will interface with clients and partner firms, leading teams of other design professionals to deliver design products requiring interface and collaboration with various disciplines, clients, and consultants. You will coordinates with other disciplines and manages the delivery of design documents, as well as plan, schedule, coordinate, manage and oversee the work of lower-level architects who assist with particular projects.

Other responsibilities include: Prepares Architectural drawings and supervises their execution; mentors’ younger staff; performs analysis of design and construction systems; completes planning studies; oversees preparation of design layouts and construction details. Oversees research used in writing specifications, including coordinating with manufacturers. Conducts site and construction inspections for information-gathering purposes, preparing interpretive reports. Executes code analysis, material selections, and technical solutions. Analyzes design and construction systems, design layouts and construction features, which require researching, compiling and recording information for assigned project work.

Essential Duties Include:

  • Leads conceptual design for various types of facilities.
  • Determine collectively with multiple design disciplines, the technical approach and design criteria for projects.
  • Lead and coach junior architectural staff.
  • Perform independent investigations, studies, and architectural analysis.
  • Develop design details, plans, and specifications.
  • Serve as quality control reviewer.
  • Contribute new designs or techniques which are of material significance in the solution of important problems.
  • Remain current in codes and technologies appropriate to the architecture discipline including IBC, NFPA, etc.
  • Ensure conformance with standards, established architectural practices, applicable codes, and technical adequacy of design and construction.
  • Participate in meetings with clients to discuss project scope and progress.
  • Participate in presentations to clients and other key stakeholders.
  • Assist with developing technical proposals and cost proposals.
  • Assist in developing project schedules and responsible for monitoring and reporting related to deliverable progress, schedule, and budget status.

Required Experience:

  • The ideal candidate must have a Professional Degree in Architecture (B. Arch or M. Arch preferred) and a minimum of 5 years of experience as a project architect working within numerous market sectors, with specific emphasis on mass transit desired.
  • The candidate should be experienced with leading multidisciplinary teams from conceptual design through construction documentation.
  • Professional Registration is preferred.
  • Extensive professional Revit Architecture and BIM experience required.
  • Autodesk products, Microstation, Rhino 3D, Grasshopper, Lumion, and Adobe Creative Suite experience are a plus.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite are required.
  • Experience in Rhino, 3-D Max, Sketch-up and LEED Accreditation is also a plus.
  • Excellent design, technical detailing and strong presentation skills, both verbal and visual, are essential.
