STUDENT UNION, INC.
The Student Union, Inc. is 501(c)(3) nonprofit auxiliary that maintains three major facilities at San José State University in downtown San José, California. These facilities include the Diaz Compean Student Union Building, the Provident Credit Union Event Center, and the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center. The Student Union, Inc. functions as part of the Student Affairs Division on campus, and is governed by a Board of Directors made up of a student majority, faculty, and administrators.

MISSION
The Student Union, Inc. of San Jose State University supports the development, growth, and well-being of students and the campus community by providing diverse programs, desired services, and quality facilities to enhance the collegiate experience.

JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Club Sports Supervisor, the Club Sports Office and Team Travel Assistant is responsible for providing administrative support to the day-to-day operations of the Club Sports program.

  • Ensure all documentation for team travel for competitions are received and authorized as per policy.
  • Facilitate and maintain the registration of Club Sports student athletes; ensures accuracy of Club Sports documents through regular audits of team paperwork.
  • Assist with enforcing Club Sports financial policies and procedures, to include accounting for all travel receipts.
  • Assist in ensuring proper practice of risk management and safety requirements.
  • Assist with the advising of students initiating new clubs and providing support through the process of becoming a registered student organization.
  • Maintain and organize the Club Sports Administration Office and ensure it’s stocked with necessary supplies; Maintain and organize Club Sports Storage
  • Manage the preparation of sites and facilities for assigned Club Sports activities to ensure safety, proper setup, and availability.
  • Schedule field assistants and assign nightly tasks; Act as direct point of contact for field assistants after normal business hours.
  • Assist in hiring, training, evaluating, and supervising part-time staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Follows all guidelines and notes unforeseen risks to manager.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of experience in collegiate competitive sports.
  • Preferred experience with basic budgeting and reconciliation of travel
  • Experience with office software applications.
  • Vacination Verification or qualifed exemption required.
  • Must be American Red Cross First Aid and C.P.R. certified or obtain upon hiring.
  • Demonstrate high level of customer service.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse environment.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate experience working with software applications.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and hold teams accountable for their deadlines.
  • Ability to multitask with internal and external clients.
  • Ability to be highly organized and prioritize tasks.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone
  • Dexterity of hands, fingers, and wrist to operate a computer keyboard and calculator
  • Seeing to read a variety of materials
  • Sitting or standing for extended period of time
  • Physical agility to lift 20 pounds to shoulder height
  • Physical agility to lift, carry, push, or pull objects

GUIDELINES
This position is non-exempt from the provisions of Section 1 of the California Industrial Welfare Commission Orders.

Pay Grade 2 - Hourly Rate: $18.40 - $24.00

Additional Information:
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. Student Union at SJSU will issue a contingent offer of employment to the selected candidate, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current SU, Inc. employee who was offered the position on a contingent basis.

The standard background check includes: criminal check, employment and education verification. Depending on the position, a motor vehicle and/or credit check may be required. All background checks are conducted through the Student Union third-party vendor, Accurate Background. Some positions may also require fingerprinting. SJSU will pay all costs associated with this procedure. Evidence of required degree(s) or certification(s) will be required at time of hire.
