Under the direction of the Vice President of Operations for Milwaukee Operations, the Area Manager of Safety will travel to each division coordinating driver development & overall safety efforts. The ASM will, inspect records, oversee the training process, and ensure compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations and Company policies. Provide guidance and assistance where needed to training personnel and work as a resource to the individual facility Terminal Manager.
They will assist with program and policy development but will generally be more focused on tactical and implementation issues. This is a salary, exempt position with variable hours.
Specific Duties:
· Frequently audit the driver qualification credential files to ensure current compliance.
· Monitor programs conducted by the instructors in each operation.
Job Qualifications:
High school graduation or equivalent. Three years of school bus driving experience or related field with driver training and defensive driving responsibility. Ability to maintain detailed records and conduct effective training sessions. Valid Wisconsin CDL driver’s license with passenger and “S” endorsements and all other Wisconsin training certifications where applicable. Prior multi facility experience preferred.
Working Conditions:
Working conditions are normally in the operations environment. The job will require indoor classroom training and outdoor Behind-the-Wheel instruction. Incumbent must be available to work more than 40 hours per week and to provide training in the evenings and on weekends as necessary to meet business needs. This position requires travel to other STA facilities as directed by management and business needs.
Interpersonal Contacts:
The Area Manager of Safety has significant daily interaction with all levels of Company personnel and may occasionally include outside contact with attorneys, school administrators and the public. Contacts are generally for the purpose of investigating, providing technical advice, policy interpretation or for program coordination. These contacts will require considerable judgment, diplomacy and discretion and the ability to communicate clearly. The Area Manager of safety deals regularly with sensitive and/or confidential information and therefore, must exercise extreme care in maintaining confidentiality and privacy.
