The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, and community green spaces across the country.

PrimaryResponsibilities:

The SCA in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join the Pennsylvania Outdoor Corps as Crew Leaders for the 2024 summer season. As a Crew Leader, you will be working with a co-lead to guide and inspire a team of young people as they gain hands-on work experience, participate in environmental education sessions, and learn about potential career paths. The crew will be working on various conservation projects in multiple Pennsylvania State Parks and public lands near their city, some projects may include trail work, habitat restoration, tree planting, invasive species removal, and more. Crew leaders work closely with SCA and DCNR staff to ensure a successful and meaningful season for their crews.

Specifically, the Crew Leader will:

• Act as a Crew Supervisor,by facilitatingteamwork, managing field-based tasks, and guiding crew dynamics
• Serve as an Advisor, by training members in technical conservation work skills, mentoring personal and professional development, and teaching environmental stewardship
• Act as a Project Manager, by communicating with agency park partners, ensuring successful and timely completion of work projects, and upholding a positive representation of SCA
• Perform tasks as aProgram Administrator,by organizing logistics, completing documentation, managing abudget, and communicating with SCA staff

Leader Qualifications:

• Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
• Experience working with youth ages 14-18, teaching, or environmental education
• Experience with conservation work skills or related skills preferred – i.e., trail maintenance, trail construction, habitat restoration, chainsaw, carpentry, landscaping, and gardening
• Ability to perform manual, physical labor for up to 8 hours per day, exposed to the elements, and must occasionally lift and/or move 40 pounds or more
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Must have current First Aid/CPR certification
• Must be able to attend Crew Leader training: 06/10/2024 – 06/21/2024
• Must have the ability to legally work in the US
• Must have a valid driver's license for 3 years and MVR that meets SCA standards
• Must have housing in/near the program city. No housing provided.

• Must be able to meet SCA's criminal background check standards
• Must have current required PA clearances for working with underage persons: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Criminal History Record, FBI Criminal History Record and fingerprinting

Leader Benefits and Compensation:

• $750.00 weekly stipend
• Crew vehicles are provided to transport crew to and from project sites
• Gas card and stipend provided
• Field base lunch included for the duration of the season
