About the Role:

• Schedule will vary. Might work overnight or during day, will be on-call sometimes (mostly on days off, should not call you back in the same day your worked)
• Will work in all types of weather including rain or snow
• Will often be away from home 2-3 days over a 1–2-week period
• Will stay at hotel at original destination site waiting for a return train
• Unpredictable work schedule with overnight travel.
• 3 weeks of training in McDonough, GA
• Will be paid $200/day for those 3 weeks (translates to roughly $52,000/yr)
• $40 daily per diem
• Responsible for own travel to/from McDonough
• Will be reimbursed for mileage ($0.625/mile)
• Doesn’t matter if you fly or drive, will be reimbursed the same
• After the 3-week mark, you will train back in Elkhart for roughly 4-5 months before being in the field on your own
• The compensation for the 4-5 months of training will be $25/hr, with the minimum per day being $200.
• A $300/bi-weekly incentive will be available based on performance.
• The expectation is that you will be making $2300/biweekly for the duration of the training.
• After training, Conductors will weigh pros/cons of the union options and select one: SMART or BLET.
• Conductors will receive a minimum guaranteed salary regardless of hours worked. Will vary based on the union agreement ($65,000 minimum)
• Conductors will be required to grow into an engineer position roughly 6 years down the road.
• Guaranteed earnings in that role are roughly $94,000 with most engineers making $110,000
• Will be eligible for medical on day 1 of the 2nd month of employment
• Will be eligible for dental, vision, life, and 401k after 1 year of employment
• Up to 4 weeks PTO and potentially more depending on union agreements
• Exempt from social security withholdings
• Will participate in the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB)
• Average annual payment is $44,800 compared to $18,000 for social security benefits
