Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced (or less experienced and highly interested!) individual to join our Bread and Lamination Team. The bread bakers scale, mix, shape and bake several hundred loaves of European style hearth loaves each day, giving the utmost attention to the dough and the variable needs of the loaves they are crafting They work efficiently, communicate clearly, focus wholly on the quality of each individual product, and do so respectfully and with attention to detail. The Bread and Laminations team also produces thousands of perfect, buttery croissants each week, makes cinnamon rolls, and various other rotating and seasonal items. Think pistachio and sour cherry croissants, dark chocolate orange babkas, caramel bottom cinnamon buns and colorful king cakes. The ideal applicant will mirror the above mentioned values, making themselves a valuable contributor to the team.

Who is Strong Arm Baking?

Strong Arm Baking started as a home-based business 10 years ago and now operates with a 70-person team of smart, dedicated, talented individuals. We sell our products out of our shop in downtown Oxford, and to several dozen wholesale partners throughout the triangle. We also deliver 'Porch Drop', full meals and thoughtfully prepared breads and pastries to 300 customers' homes weekly.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Follows recipes and bread production methods with attention to detail.
  • Works efficiently and with a sense of urgency.
  • Effectively utilizes measuring instruments, commercial-grade mixers and ovens, and other tools to bake bread.
  • Accurately prepares raw ingredients and equipment for baking.
  • Evaluates raw ingredients and baked breads to ensure Strong Arm Baking standards are met and informs management of any quality control issues.
  • Complies with all health and safety guidelines.
  • Keep a close watch on those loaves in the oven, making sure they come out looking and tasting top-notch.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Is able to operate commercial-grade ovens and other bakery equipment and work adjacent to a high-heat source, with provided training.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Understand the importance of note taking, strong communication, and other techniques that promote quick and successful learning.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays. Willingness to maintain flexible availability in order to accomodate for busier baking seasons. Ability to work early morning shifts if required.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with the job.Must be able to lift 50 lbs and stand for long periods.This job is fast paced, and the correct applicant must be able to operate under pressure and with important time constraints.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Preference given to those with experience working in bread or pastry bakeries.
  • Minimum 1 year working in the service industry, or similar demanding and physically challenging jobs.
