Streimer Sheet Metal Works Inc is Hiring a Mechanical Estimator Near Portland, OR

We are poised for continued growth and have an immediate need for a highly skilled and effective Mechanical Estimator. This position is responsible for preparing detailed cost proposals for complete HVAC systems, including hydronic piping and sheet metal; with plumbing experience being a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Use Quote Express estimating software to do quantity take-offs.
  • Review RFP’s, Specifications, Basis of Design and Drawings to determine scope, identify risks and opportunities, and prepare detailed estimates.
  • Review all final estimate and budget packages to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to formal quotation.
  • Budget projects for clients using various levels of provided detail from a narrative to complete drawings.
  • Develop relationships with client estimating staff and support their budgeting needs.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other department, and construction supervisors to discuss and formulate estimates, resolve issues, and obtain support and commitment to the cost-estimates.
  • Solicit subcontractor bids and vendor quotes, and review and verify scope coverage.
  • Use complex estimating spreadsheets and modify as needed to report data for external and internal deliverables.
  • Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
  • Assist management team with analyzing completed projects to drive lessons learned and collect data to use on future project estimates.
  • Assist Project Manager’s in setting up jobs so that the project results can be forecasted effectively.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and relevant
  • American Society of Professional Estimators certification is a plus.
  • Experience bidding of all sizes.
  • Ability to lay out, size, and quantify HVAC systems in situations where the drawings are conceptual in nature.
  • Familiarity of HVAC piping and plumbing systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering, architectural, and construction plans, drawings and specifications, and knowledge of building and mechanical codes is required.
  • Knowledgeable about construction contracts.
  • Solid analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Thorough in completing tasks and focused on detail and accuracy.
  • Exceptional organizational and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Strong mathematical skills and the ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
  • Works with integrity and ethical business practices.
  • Advanced user of the Microsoft Office suite particularly in Excel, as well as experience with Quote Express or similar estimating software.

  • Competitive salary range of $ 115K to $ 130K; commensurate with cross-discipline experience
