Summary

Responsible for developing and leading strategic supply chain management, sourcing strategies, contract negotiations, vendor-managed inventory programs, and strategic vendor performance reviews. Complies with corporate initiatives with a special focus on the supplier and quality; This position looks for innovative ways to improve efficiency, reduce costs, optimize suppliers, as well as identify and implement business process improvements that enable effectiveness. Together with the corporate quality, materials and engineering teams, they ensure that the supplier's supply chain supports the corporate quality system.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

Support Operations and engineering teams through an advanced purchasing strategy, develop current purchasing, supplier life cycle management

Must be able to:

  • Strategically develops and implements processes and actions throughout OEM manufacturing global operations to reduce costs, coordinate initiatives with all interested parties, and program manage purchasing milestones, i.e. Purchase price variance reviews, RFQ timelines and design for manufacturing initiatives as they relate to the supply base.
  • Ensure purchasing strategies and processes are in place to meet business objectives and operational needs in terms of price, quality, and delivery targets, allowing the business to function and compete effectively in the marketplace to include: Terms and conditions, selection, evaluation and reasonableness of supply chain solutions, including supplier managed inventory, supplier shipments and safety stock.
  • Create and implement best purchasing practices, vision, strategy, policies, Processes and procedures to assist and improve business performance. Create purchased manufacturing commodity strategies and identify leveraging opportunities across sites, groups and corporate.
  • Evaluate the challenges faced by the business and act to mitigate risks and develop opportunities, develop make versus buy strategies as vertical integration initiatives apply. Contribute to overall business strategy and annual budget process
  • Experience in a variety of commodities, project management, MRP, MPS, EDI, Logistics, Procurement, including supplier management and training, Supply chain planning and coordination required.
  • Negotiate supplier contractual agreements, ensuring supplier collaboration and engagement.
  • Manage different areas of purchasing, i. e. MRO, advanced and strategic purchasing, commodity and capital acquisition.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position manages purchasing personnel at all STRATTEC facilities.

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Finance, Business, or Engineering or equivalent Supply Chain Management experience.
  • 10 years of experience in automotive purchasing (OEM or Tier 1).
  • Training in one or more developmental areas (i.e. negotiation, contract writing, cost analysis, legal, leadership development, etc.).
  • Willingness to travel as needed, including overseas.
  • Understanding of the basic cost elements of Automotive Parts.
  • Strong and confident negotiator with the ability to negotiate at all levels.
  • Works with all levels of management, including executive management.
  • Must display ability to identify problems, recommend solutions, and negotiate and execute contingency plans.
  • Must be able to accept personal responsibility and accountability for major analytical and planning assignments.
  • Communicates directly with management and cross-functional leaders as required.
  • Strong teamwork skills. Able to develop consensus and move the program forward. Develop win-win situations.
  • Inquisitive, detail-oriented with strong quantitative analytical skills and an innovative approach to problem solving.
  • Strong written communication and presentation skills required.
  • Time management skills.
  • Excellent MS Office capabilities required.
  • Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (IATF16949) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001), as applicable.
  • Exceptional planning, analysis and problem-solving abilities are required.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to influence outcomes will assist in program development and implementation.
  • Working knowledge of supply chain issues gained from within OEM/manufacturing environments.
