Stratolaunch is Hiring an Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic Near Mojave, CA

NOTE: This is a 6-month contract with the ability to extend
Stratolaunch is developing an air-launch platform to contribute to high-speed research and development. The goal of Stratolaunch is to use the air-launch platform for enabling technologies that may not exist otherwise. Stratolaunch has the potential for creating technology development opportunities for commercial, philanthropic, and governmental organizations to collect rich and actionable data and drive advancements in science, research, and technology. 
The individual operating in this capacity will be responsible for, fabrication, installation and maintenance of vehicle systems and components. As Stratolaunch expands our program base this person may be tasked to other, new projects and in the development, vehicles requiring the skills, knowledge and abilities utilized on this current project.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Fabrication, installation and maintenance of metallic structure, propulsion systems and components Including but not limited to:
    • Propulsion system and components
    • Pneumatic systems and components
    • Engine systems and components
    • Airframe and aircraft structures
  • Knowledge of sheet metal and fabrication process including measuring, forming, drilling, stamping, shaping, bending, punching, cutting, riveting, filing, and dimpling.
  • Layout, position and secure prefabricated parts and assemblies according to specifications.
  • Smooths seams, joints, or burred surfaces, using files and portable grinder or buffer.
  • Maintain and install the various components of aircraft sheet metal external and internal structures.
  • Inspects assemblies and installations for conformance with specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, scales, and micrometer.
  • Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to leadership.
  • Operate all power tools and equipment necessary to accomplish job assignment such as shears, brakes, bending rolls, punch, and drill press, etc.
  • Interpret and work in accordance with written work instructions, technical manuals, engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics within all safety protocols.
  • Complete all required work instructions in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Operate related ground handling equipment as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3 years of experience in metal fabrication and installation
  • 3 years of experience in maintenance of aircraft components and propulsion preferred, Including:
    • Propulsion system and components
    • Pneumatic systems and components
    • Engine systems and components
    • Airframe and aircraft structures
  • A strong understanding of the importance of FOD control and tool control
  • Demonstrated and consistently applied manual dexterity.
  • Detail oriented – strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing philosophies and tools a plus.
  • Personnel safety mentality – not just work safely but promote a culture of safety.
  • Honesty, responsibility, accuracy, integrity, and fulfillment of commitments
  • Ability to problem solve and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently, responsible, take the initiative.
  • Physically able to handle items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Other duties as determined/assigned by management.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 3 years of experience in metal fabrication and installation
  • 3 years of experience in maintenance of aircraft components and propulsion preferred
Special remarks regarding work environment, if applicable
  • $33.00-$59.00 Hourly
  • This position is located in Mojave, Ca.
  • This position may require travel to offsite locations depending on aircraft dispatch location.
