Strength Conditioning Coach

Overview:

The Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) initiative is the Army's investment in Soldier Readiness. The H2F System provides Strength and Conditioning Coaches (SCCs) and Cognitive Performance Specialists (CPSs) to function as integrated members of a Brigade (BDE)-based multi-disciplinary team focused on optimizing Soldier readiness and performance within the Army’s new H2F System. The H2F System is the Army’s primary investment in Soldier readiness and lethality, optimal physical and non-physical performance, reduced injury rates, improved rehabilitation after injury, and increased overall effectiveness of the Total Army. The system empowers and equips Soldiers to take charge of their health, fitness, and well-being in order to optimize individual performance, while preventing injury and disease.

The Strength Conditioning Coach (SCC) functions as an integrated member of a multi-disciplinary team focused on optimizing Soldier readiness and performance within the Army’s new Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) System.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in program quality assurance of the training programs to ensure training programs are aligned with industry standards.
  • Provide a report monthly by the 10th calendar day of the month outlining any differences/recommendations as an attachment to the TOSR and provide a copy to the BDE PD.
  • Participate in periodic meetings with the BDE Program Director, H2F Performance Team and unit (BDE, BN or Company) leadership, to provide a report on H2F System physical training program and recommendations/feedback on Soldier/unit progression. Report shall be furnished IAW local policy. Reports may be oral or written as the situation requires.
  • Track and document Soldier/unit progression on a regular basis and recommend opportunities for H2F System improvement to the Government. The Contractor should track this information and provide to the Government as required.
  • Ensure safe and effective operation of equipment used within their work capacity which contributes to a safe working environment. Where deficiencies exist regarding SCC supplies, equipment utilization and needs, bring to the attention of the BDE PD.
  • Coordinates scheduling of facilities for Government approved courses, training, and classes as applicable.
  • Develop and execute strength and conditioning programs in accordance with FM 7-22 Holistic Health and Fitness
  • Assists the Lead SCC with developing, coordinating, executing, and managing H2F strength and conditioning programs.
  • Coordinates, executes, and manages physical performance optimization programs within the framework of the unit’s approved training/operational schedule, battle rhythm, and culture.
  • assists the Lead SSC to develop, coordinate, and execute approved training programs for Soldiers with physical limitations that are medically cleared for strength and conditioning training/reconditioning.
  • Coordinates with Lead SCC to ensure all strength and conditioning education and services are synchronized and integrated with approved education and services provided by H2F Performance Team.
  • Coaches and mentor the unit fitness leaders and H2F Integrator.
  • Provides recommended and approved instruction and guidance to Soldiers and unit leadership on physical strength and conditioning and injury prevention in coordination with the unit and H2F Performance Team.
  • Identifies and directs Soldiers with an apparent new or undiagnosed medical condition to the appropriate medical professionals for evaluation and treatment.
  • Identifies and recommends opportunities for improvement to H2F Lead SCC.
  • Assist the Lead SCC with developing, coordinating, executing, and managing recommended and approved H2F System strength and conditioning programs.
  • Develops lines of communication within the BDE, BN and Company leadership, including participating in associated training and other meetings.
  • Develops and recommends evidence-based, periodized strength and conditioning programs focused on unit mission and individual Soldier tasks IAW H2F System that are synchronized and integrated with unit training/operational schedule, battle rhythm, and culture and implement upon Government approval.
  • As required, submits strength and conditioning programs, with quantified training loads, to Lead SCC for approval and implement upon Government approval.
  • Collects H2F performance data and prepares documentation and reporting of data IAW guiding instructions provided by the BDE PD and submit to Government as required.
  • Observes BDE specific training events (e.g., shooting range, obstacle courses, combative training areas, etc.) as required.

Minimum Required Skills, Education, Experience & Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field from an accredited college or university. SCCs shall also possess a current certification by the NSCA as a CSCS or by the CSCCA as a SCCC.
  • Possess a current certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA) as a Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC).
  • Have a minimum of three full years of relevant SCC work experience within the last five years, two of which will be operating independently within the Army’s H2F Program.
  • Relevant experience is defined as independently developing and executing task and environment specific functional injury control and health/wellbeing programs for groups of athletes or DoD/Department of Homeland Security / Department of Justice entities focused on a common sport or mission performance goal. Employment related to internships or graduate work up to one year will be considered towards relevant experience. SCC internships are being conducted across multiple H2F BDEs through university partnerships.
  • Upon COR-RA pre-approval, the three-year experience requirement may be waived for SCC interns or Graduate assistants working with professional/semi-professional, ROTC, collegiate or equivalent sports teams for a minimum of 3 months.
  • Upon COR-RA pre-approval, the three-year experience requirement may be waived for honorably discharged prior service members or Military spouses.
  • Have a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification with Automated External Defibrillators (AED) certification. Certification cards must display the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross emblem. Web-based classes do not meet required standards. Recertification shall be maintained in a current status at all times while the SCC is performing services under this TO. Failure of the SCC to obtain and maintain training does not release the Contractor from the TO requirement.
  • Can read, write, and speak English and effectively communicate with Soldiers and leadership.
  • Have U.S. Citizenship
  • Demonstrate sufficient initiative, interpersonal relationship skills and social sensitivity such that they can relate to a variety of Soldiers from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks, organize workload, and manage time.
  • Superb organizational, verbal, and written communications skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications, such as Word, Excel, and Teams.
  • Capable of properly lifting and manipulating loads or weights up to 45 pounds and capable of meeting physical demands of training in all types of weather with Soldiers including the ability to hike over rough terrain, function in austere environments to observe Soldier training evolutions and to train, educate, coach, and mentor.
  • Capable of observing, demonstrating, and correcting Soldier’s performance of training/exercise techniques and form.
  • Not have been convicted of a felony.
