Overview

The Electric Vehicle Associate will join the Alameda County General Services Agency Logistics team, a nationally recognized leader in green vehicle deployment. The fellow’s primary goal is to reduce operational transportation-related emissions by 1) advancing the deployment of an all-electric vehicle (EV) fleet and 2) supporting employee clean commuting. You will develop and implement these actions using goals and metrics from the County’s Climate Action Plan for Government Services and Operations, coordinating with the County’s Office of Sustainability.

This position will give you the opportunity to work directly on cutting-edge sustainable transportation policy programs, collaborate with external partners, and gain knowledge of tools needed to manage a fleet of EVs and advocate for alternative commute methods. The EV Associate will work on strategies to reduce energy impact from our growing number of EV charging stations while contributing to the expansion of the fleet and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the EV Associate may include:

  • Developing a fleet utilization report and recommending opportunities for fleet use optimization;
  • Determining the most probable locations for EV adoption in the County’s fleet;
  • Researching, applying for, and reporting for state and federal grants for EV vehicles and infrastructure;
  • Monitoring charging station usage and executing service requests when needed;
  • Analyzing greenhouse gas benefits from optimizing energy usage in facilities by EVs;
  • Supporting deployment of commuter programs such as vanshare and e-bike lending programs;
  • Researching fleet and commuter regulations at other municipalities;
  • Developing marketing to encourage employees to use fleet EVs; and
  • Supporting potential public-private partnerships.

The position will provide significant opportunities to develop professionally, including:

  • Independently tracking and prioritizing work on multiple simultaneous projects and keeping projects with long timelines on track;
  • Taking initiative to develop new ways to reduce emissions;
  • Considering the needs of communities most affected by environmental justice concerns;
  • Maintaining relationships with outside contractors, vendors, and other partners; and
  • Researching cutting-edge sustainable transportation technology and associated policy.

All fellows at Alameda County can work with other fellows placed at Alameda County and participate in our award-winning series of fellow trainings and workshops.

Desired Qualifications

  • Self-starter attitude and comfort prioritizing work based on general guidance;
  • Comfort working independently and collaborating remotely;
  • Resourcefulness, diligence, and proactivity, to think critically about how to overcome obstacles and determine when to reach out for help.
  • Strong data-analytical skills to collect and analyze large datasets and communicate data-driven conclusions in a succinct and digestible format;
  • Creative critical thinking and flexibility; and
  • Willingness to advocate for innovative, disruptive ideas by making a thoughtful case.

We are operating as a hybrid remote/in-person team. If you prefer to work in the office, a desk will be available. When there are in-person meetings/events/visits, you will be notified in advance.

We encourage anyone who is interested in this position and who meets some of the qualifications to apply, even if they do not meet all of them. We recognize that a unique perspective and background can enhance a role when many, if not all, of the listed qualifications are met.

**If you would need to relocate for this position, please note that you need to be in the state you are relocating to no less than 10 business days before the start of the fellowship.**
