This work study position will offer opportunities to gain knowledge and experience in natural resources management and plant identification, equipment operation, and park facility and grounds maintenance. This position will start in February/March 2024 and end approximately June 14, 2024. The position is based at Hickory Grove Park in Colo.
Duties will include chainsaw operation, prairie and forest restoration, prescribed fire, invasive species removal, mowing, string trimming, litter control, general carpentry, and trail maintenance.
This position will report/repair safety hazards; offer assistance and information to the public; assist staff with area monitoring/ maintain working relationships with other employees and the public; attend mandatory safety training and staff meetings; and perform related tasks as assigned. Work will involve the operation of UTVs, mowers/trimmers, chainsaws, trucks/trailers, tractors, and power tools.
680 work hours are available during the spring semester. Work study employees may work up to 20 hours per work week when classes are in session or for no more than 40 hours in any other week. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a current, valid driver's license.
Applicants must be enrolled at Iowa State University and eligible for work study.
Applicants should be working towards a degree in a natural resource field.
Employees will undergo post offer, pre-employment background checks and drug screening.
