The Design Representative Trainee will have the duty of examining and measuring openings before the installation of shutters, windows, and doors in mainly residential settings. Accuracy and effective, concise communication are crucial qualities. Exceptional communication and organizational abilities are required. Upon successful completion of certification, the individual will be promoted to the position of Design Representative.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Become knowledge about how product is manufactured
  • Become knowledgeable about how product is installed
  • Learns how product is installed in various applications with different building materials
  • Attend Design appointments with Design Representative to learn how product would be installed
  • Take precise measurements for all openings per contract. Determine material and parts needed for projects
  • Determine how the installation process will occur
  • Determine the equipment needed for the installation to be completed
  • Assist with creating documents with detail measurements, layouts and build out requirements and custom design information for Hurricane shutters, Windows and Doors.
  • Assist with creating note sheets and custom layouts with installation and manufacturing instructions for each project.
  • Review project details after administration complete data entry.
  • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.

Required Skills / Abilities

  • Strong Math and geometry skills
  • Strong Customer Service Skills
  • Ability to read blue prints
  • Has a basic understanding of engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with window/door, shutters, screens, and hurricane protection projects which will include field measuring, product knowledge, construction methods, and building codes.
  • Proven ability to use measuring tapes, squares, levels and other carpentry tools to accurately measure and determine the proper quantities/sizes of windows, doors and shutter products
  • Knowledge of planning and scheduling techniques
  • Knowledge of the operation personal computers, printers and other standard office equipment
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively, orally and in writing to personnel, departments, and clients
  • Ability to organize and file documents utilizing computer programs
  • In-depth knowledge of window, door, shutters, and other hurricane protection products
  • Detail oriented with a strong work ethic.
  • Demonstrate respect, consideration, and integrity and interact professionally with other employees, clients, and suppliers.
  • Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
  • Observe and adhere to established performance expectations and safety procedures.
  • Work independently and self-motivated while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft software and propriety design software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication

Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications:

  • Valid Driver's License with clean driving record
  • High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent
  • Knowledge of Carpentry
  • 3-5 years Construction Experience
  • 1-2 years Design Experience
  • Previous installation experience is preferred.

The job setting consists of 60% fieldwork at Contract Sites and 40% office work for paperwork and job reviews. Candidates must be capable of walking on properties and taking measurements using step ladders, extension ladders, scaffolding, or a lift.
