Description
The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will work with physicians and nurses in the practice to provide medical treatment plans for Cardiothoracic patients in the hospital and outpatient setting; will collaborate with nurse managers, clinical nurses, discharge team, and medical staff to plan, implement and evaluate pertinent change in practice and health care delivery; will facilitate patient movement through the system and efficient use of resources through interdepartmental collaboration; will coordinate coverage for time off unit, time off, and off-hours; and will write orders which are in accord with current guidelines.
Job Duties & Essential Functions:
  • Take patient history, perform a physical examination and make an assessment and diagnosis based on this information, as well as, initiate, review and revise treatment plans and record and present data in a manner meaningful to the supervising physician.
  • Provide patient care services to the medical practice.
  • Assist physician with interventional treatments, respond to incoming phone messages from patient and make call backs to patient reporting response to attending physician.
  • Make referrals to other healthcare providers and/or consult the physician for further definitive therapy.
  • Perform Physical examinations; identify health problems based on findings.
  • Order and evaluate appropriate non-invasive diagnostic tests and procedures.
  • Instruct and counsel patients on health care, health maintenance, medical problems, treatment plans, nutrition or other related issues as appropriate.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Nurse Practitioner: Current NYS RN license. Masters degree in Nursing or completion of a course for Nurse Practitioner and certification as a Nurse Practitioner in adult health and/or family health nurse practitioner. Excellent communication skills.
Physician Assistant: NYS license and certification as a Physician Assistant. Bachelors degree from an accredited school of Physician Assistants. Excellent communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working in a fast-paced medical practice. Experience with EMR.
