Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):Associate's Degree(foreign equivalent or higher)from a college or university program accredited by an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) with one (1) year of full-time working experience in public health or related industry such as insurance. In lieu of degree, HS GED and two (2) years of full-timeexperience working in public health or related industry such as insurance or one (1) year of full-time Dental revenue cycle/billing/follow-up experience may be considered. Experience working with insurance policies, reimbursement and/or dental terminology. Medical or Dental billing experience.
Preferred Qualifications:Dental Clinic/School experience. Experience with axiUm. Knowledge of Medicaid dental guidelines and reimbursement methodologies. Knowledge of CPT and CDT codes.Experience with Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
Brief Description of Duties:At Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine, our Claim Follow Up Specialist Under direct supervision is responsible for completing duties to support Revenue Cycle Management by accurately and efficiently completing assigned tasks. This position will support day-to-day business functions including but not limited to billing, claims, appeals, claim follow-up and customer service. This position will work with others in a fast-paced team environment. To be successful at this position, the candidate must have excellent expressive communication skills, must be highly organized, must have excellent attention to detail and must be able to meet deadlines.Duties under direct supervision:
*Prepare and submit dental claims.
*Review and resolve denials. Investigate and resolve coding issues.
*Review and respond to audit requests.
oFollow-up on rejected or denied claims, improper payments and coding issues.
oProcess appeals using clinical notes and/or narratives.
oIdentify issues and patterns with claims/insurance companies and review to increase revenue and prevent unnecessary denials.
oAssist the supervisor in trainings and make recommendations to improve policy and procedures for the unit as well as the office.
oInvestigate and accurately update Coordination of Benefits, including refund request letters, reports, mail, etc.
*Other duties as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
