POSITION TITLE: NA/US

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The NA upholds patient confidentiality and patient safety. Under the supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse, the Nurse Aide (NA/US) will provide direct and indirect patient care services in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the Division of Nursing. The NA/US will assist professional staff by functioning as an active member of a multidisciplinary team. The NA/US performs assigned patient care activities under the supervision of the professional staff. The NA/US contributes to the therapeutic milieu by demonstrating and awareness of patients physical/ emotional needs and an ability to respond in a therapeutic manner. The NA/US upholds patient confidentiality and patient safety. Patients may be unable to perform tasks such as mobilization and walking, bathing, eating, and communication.

SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE:

• Specimen collection; drawing blood; obtaining blood glucose levels; obtaining EKG; taking vital signs; obtaining data for intake and output.
• Performing constant observation and proactive safety rounds, performing activities of daily living assistance; engaging patients in meaningful interaction and activities.
• Maintaining safe, clean, and therapeutic environments; responding to patient call bells; answering phones; property and environment searches.
• Ordering, maintaining, and putting away supplies; other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: H.S. Diploma required, American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certification required. Minimum one (1) year of healthcare experience required. Two (2 ) years of previous C.N.A experience or acute care experience preferred.

Experience: Prior experience in a Nursing Assistant role in a hospital, nursing home, or ambulatory setting preferred.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift or assist in lifting a client from bed to chair standing or vice versa. Must be able to respond quickly and effectively communicate orally in an emergent situation. Must be able to use stairs in an emergent situation. Must be able to walk, carry semi-heavy equipment and reach overhead. Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with clients or associates.

• Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton's Employee Health Services*
• Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen*
• Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
• Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
