Job Description:

THE JOB

The Brewing Supervisor will oversee all Brewery activity, including planning, assigning tasks, and supervising team members. Ability to performs all brewing and cellar tasks.

Must be able to work any shift within a 24-hour period.

THE BASICS

Safety

  • Leads safety culture by writing or executing Near Hits, Job Safety Analyses, monthly ergonomic training, monthly compliance training, and weekly audits.
  • Ensures the team follows the Stone Safety Policy (PPE usage, LOTO adherence, HAZCOM, confined space entry, etc.)
  • Be the first responder to production questions and issues and follow up as needed with managers or maintenance.
  • Be the first responder to accidents and safety concerns, respond appropriately to incidents and complete the required investigations and paperwork.

Quality

  • Ensures that the brewery and cellar are clean and organized at all times according to the Stone cGMP Policy.
  • Participates in the weekly Microbiology and Physical Chemistry meetings and uses quality data to drive process improvements.
  • Implements recipe changes as directed and updates the change management log.
  • Provide recommendations on process improvement, equipment upgrades and recipe formulation.
  • Partner with the QA team to ensure sample plans are executed.
  • Ensures the team executes the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS).
  • Scores and maintains the CIP log according to the MSS.

Teamwork and Team Development

  • Update and execute the 28-month cross-training plan for shift brewers.
  • Create staff schedule to ensure proper coverage of duties per shift.
  • Create a motivational environment with open and effective communication.
  • Mentor and coach team to reduce turnover and retain team members.
  • Prepares and delivers quarterly and annual of Performance Reviews.
  • Provides initial and ongoing training and ensures compliance with safety regulations and SOPs. Ensure staff is trained and certified in the tasks they are assigned.
  • Makes arrangements to cover team absences so tasks are completed as scheduled.

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead, write, mentor and execute 5 Why’s and drive resulting action plans to completion.
  • Ability to write and edit SOP’s and Job Safety Analyses.
  • Execute small continuous improvement projects using the DMAIC and/or Plan-Do-Check-Act methodology
  • Monitors and tracks progress of filter runs and brewhouse performance and updates associated KPI’s.

Brewing Operations

  • Supervise brewhouse, cellar, and filtration operations to process beer according to the schedule and priority. Performs quality assurance and sensory testing according to Stone Brewing SOPs.
  • Coordinates, assigns tasks, and prioritizes all required production activities on the assigned shift (including cleaning, brewing, cellar work, centrifuging, filtering, and packaging), partnering with Brewing Management Team as needed.
  • Ensure beer required for packaging is ready when needed.
  • Ensure a complete information pass-on at each shift change and a smooth shift transition for the incoming supervisor and production team.
  • Update the DRA and submit shift handover notes at the end of each shift.
  • Responsible for maintaining and tracking appropriate inventory levels of raw materials, chemicals, personal protective equipment and other production department consumables and equipment.
  • Competently operate Brewhouse and cellar equipment to process brews according to Stone SOPs.
  • Partner with Procurement and Planning to coordinate brewing, yeast management, centrifugation, filtering, spent grain, and waste water schedules.
  • Works with maintenance to schedule maintenance activities.

Culture Ambassador

  • Assist with events, dinners, and meet & greets.
Required Experience:


WHAT YOU NEED

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, preferably in a science or engineering related field. Brewing education preferred.
  • At least 5 years of related experience and/or training working in a brewery; or equivalent combination of experience and education. Must have at least 2 years of supervisory experience with at least 2 years of experience running/operating a large brewhouse system (50bbl ) and 2 years of experience running/operating a Centrifuge Filter system or equivalent combination of Brewhouse and Centrifuge Filter experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Experience with ERP systems, such as Microsoft Dynamics AX, SAP, Orchestrated Beer, etc. is highly desired.
  • Brewing certificate or coursework desired. Cicerone program certifications a plus
  • Continuous Improvement - experience in Lean/WCM/Six Sigma programs and practices preferred e.g. 5 Why, 5S, DMAIC, action planning, autonomous maintenance, root cause analysis, KPI development, target and trigger development, etc.
