PURPOSE
The Superintendent, Health, Safety & Security is responsible for developing and optimizing the company's HSS operating system. Additionally, this person will be responsible for training and developing employees as South32 moves from project to operation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
·Develop HSS operating systems from project to operational state.
·Support operational readiness in HSS procedural transfer from contractor execution to operations.
·Provide oversight, direction, and support in HSS matters to contracting partners.
·Support PFS HSS requirements, including study reports.
·Supervise, manage, and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the HSS team.
·In consultation with the S32 Training Principle, develop and improve regulatory mandatory training.
·Support and coach risk management techniques to team and contracting partners.
·Supervise external regulatory reporting and engagement requirements.
·Support project in emergency management improvement from project to operational state.
·Provide oversight, guidance, review, or facilitation of ICAM investigations.
·Support engineering and construction HAZOP and constructability reviews.
·Develop team members on a sustainable growth path to support the operational state.
·Communicate with multiple contractors, MSHA, County Emergency Services, Border Patrol, State Forest, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor's degree in a health sciences discipline is preferred; however, a combination of years of direct experience and education will be considered in lieu of a degree. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience in HSS.
ORGANIZATIONAL FACTORS
The Superintendent, Health, Safety & Security, will report directly to the Manager, Health, Safety & Security, as well as four direct reports.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
·Experience in major capital projects in EPCM or client roles.
·Preferred experience in underground development (shafts, decline, material handling systems)
·Preferred experience in self-performing and/or contractor management of surface infrastructure
·Proven history of managing small teams, including the development of team members.
·Ability to develop positive relationships with all levels of the organization to support a culture of care.
·Strong written reporting skills.
·Strong knowledge of risk management, from material and scope risks to field-level assessments and evaluation.
