Still She Rises, Inc. (SSR) provides free legal representation to pregnant women, women with children, or women who are child caregivers and facing legal matters in the criminal, child welfare, or economic justice space. Still She Rises seeks to employ highly motivated individuals with a commitment to indigent defense. Founded in North Tulsa, Still She Rises offers client-centered, innovative, and holistic legal representation. We honor the dignity of the women we serve by championing our clients’ individual goals while also targeting systemic issues impacting the larger community.
Responsibilities
Still She Rises, Inc. seeks a motivated professional to join our team as a Client Advocate. Client Advocates work directly with attorneys and other legal team members to assist clients in their legal cases. Client Advocates are primarily responsible for understanding and navigating various bureaucratic processes and social service programs that our clients either elect to or are required to engage with. They advocate for clients to receive fair treatment that is both accurate and appropriate to the client’s specific needs and circumstances.
Client Advocates must maintain precise records of their work and the actions or decisions made by external organizations as they relate to our clients. Client Advocates will also support attorneys in the drafting of mitigation reports. This position is ideal for someone who is interested in learning about the intricacies of the legal system in a dynamic, fast-paced, and growing organization. An effective Client Advocate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and develop the ability to navigate complex systems.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Willingness to develop knowledge and expertise in legal systems, child-welfare systems, legal-adjacent systems, and available resources
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams
- Experience and interest in working in and with racially and socioeconomically oppressed communities
- Excellent listening skills and high emotional intelligence
- Ability to think critically and quickly on their feet
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with ability to translate complex processes into manageable steps
- Ability to drive and/or transport themselves and their work files to court, jail, and any other place where their physical presence is required
- Curiosity and an interest in problem solving
Preferred Qualifications
Compensation: $48,000 annually medical, dental, vision, life, FSA, and 401K with 4% employer contribution
