This is a full-time, seasonal 450-hour AmeriCorps National Service position. Placement locally within Stewards Beckley, WV office, National Park Service locations, or remote options available.

**Position Summary**

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Park Service (NPS) sites in Baltimore recognize the significance and importance of a strong online presence to provide information and content to visitors both locally and across the nation. The parks identified a high priority need for visual information assistance for all three parks. This includes work related to web-site management, social media, and multi-media development. An intern would help with creating and posting information and more importantly, working with NPS staff and management on developing the foundations, process and protocols for managing and maintaining this very critical part of our visitor outreach.

**Program Description**

Youth Empowerment Stewards (YES) internships are seasonal, 12-week positions supported Conservation Legacys Stewards program. YES internships are available to individuals with a disability 18-24 years of age and Veterans up to age 35. A list of Disabilities can be found .

**Internship Overview**

Individuals serving in this role will assist both their host site and Stewards Individual Placements Eastern region with programmatic and organization reviews to identify best practices, barriers to service, and pathways to inclusivity. These overarching goals may be accomplished through a variety of activities including but not limited to community meeting representation, policy research, training and education presentations, grants research, and general administrative support.

Specific areas of responsibility for the Conservation Legacy cohort of YES members (5) may include:

* Create content to be featured on park and trail social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) and park websites;

* Review and update social media plans for the parks and trail;

* Draft an editorial calendar that outlines NPS monthly themes and significant dates for planning future communications;

* Assist management in formalizing collateral duties (including roles and assignments) for all aspects of online visual information

**About NPS and Fort McHenry National Monument & Historic Shrine:**

The National Park sites in the Baltimore Area Parks are made up of: Fort McHenry National Monument & Historic Shrine (the birthplace of the U.S. national anthem); Hampton National Historic Site (encompasses 64 acres that includes a Georgian manor house, farmhouse, slave quarters and gardens) and the Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail (a 560-mile land and water route throughout the Chesapeake Bay in MD, VA, and Washington DC and connects the places, people, and events that lead to the birth of the U.S. national anthem during the War of 1812).

**General Qualifications:**

* Be between the ages of 18 and 26 (exception for veterans up to age 35)

* US Citizenship or Legal Permanent Residency status

* Familiarity with Social Media Platforms, best practices, and some experience with content strategy creation

* Flexibility, adaptability, and capacity to work in a fluid, changing work

* Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs and applications, or similar

* Exhibits the ability to effectively work on diverse teams or with a variety of populations, including those underrepresented at our organization and those of BIPOC

* Ability to communicate and collaborate in a variety of virtual and job site settings

* Comfortable working in a field and office

* Must be eligible to receive an AmeriCorps Education Award (individuals are eligible if they have not already completed 2 full years of AmeriCorps service, or 4 AmeriCorps service terms, whichever comes first please contact us if you are unsure of your eligibility)

* Work independently and secure transportation as needed to specific program sites and projects.

* Pass background checks: all offers of positions are conditional upon completion of an acceptable check of the National Sex Offender Public Registry and Federal and/or State criminal background

* Full vaccination against COVID-19 by the first day of employment and ability to provide proof of vaccination before starting

Preferred Qualifications:

* Excellent customer service skills

* Ability to work well as part of a team

* Strong writing skills- content, procedural documentation

* Solid critical thinking experience and skills- scheduling, process review

* Global experience with accessibility/ disability policy

* Comfortable with ambiguity and working in a fast-paced team driven and entrepreneurial

* Strong interest in a future career in natural resources, environmental science, parks and recreation, or conservation

Physical Requirements:
