Stevenson UniversitySummary:
This is a full-time, 10-month, open-rank faculty academic program administrator position in the Accounting Program, Brown School of Business and Leadership (BSBL) with responsibilities for leading, managing, and coordinating the Bachelor of Science degree program in Accounting, teaching, course development, student advising and mentoring, student recruiting and retention, service to the school, department, and university, and continued scholarship in the field. Other responsibilities may include off-campus, evening, or weekend duties as designated by the Dean. Under the direction of the Dean, BSBL, the Program Coordinator administers the program, adhering to all policies and procedures. In addition, the Program Coordinator shares responsibility for maintaining the program's accreditation by IACBE by fostering a culture of assessment; continuous quality improvement; and adherence to the IACBE Standards for data collection, analysis, and reporting. The Program Coordinator for Accounting fulfills all responsibilities of a full-time faculty member as defined in the Stevenson University Policies and in the Full-Time Faculty Job Description approved by the faculty of the Brown School of Business and Leadership. The teaching load requirement is three-fourths of the full-time faculty teaching load. Evening and weekend hours are required. Rank and title are determined at the time of hire and will be commensurate with education and experience.

Education/Experience:
Doctorate degree in accounting or a related field, active CPA preferred, plus a minimum of five years teaching experience at the college level or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience as an academic administrator preferred. Individuals with appropriate graduate degrees in law and taxation or appropriate combinations of graduate degrees in law and accounting will be considered subject to continued, sustained, and substantive academic and professional engagement that demonstrates relevance and currency in the field of teaching.

  • Ability to develop and maintain a professional network to support advising, mentoring, and placement of accounting majors in relevant internships and jobs.
  • Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse teams of faculty, staff, and other academic program administrators sharing time, ideas, equipment, resources, and space.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements:
Medium work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, keyboarding, and repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Position requires sitting for long periods of time and the ability to speak clearly and effectively for an extended period of time and additional hours for meetings and events, including days, evenings, and weekends.
Essential Functions:
Administrative Activity
  • Responsible for leading, managing, and coordinating the IACBE-accredited Accounting program. Serve as the first point of contact for students, faculty, staff and others regarding questions, complaints, and issues pertaining to the Accounting program.
  • Perform supervisory responsibilities to include hiring, managing, and evaluating full- and part-time faculty, maintaining a budget, scheduling classes, developing articulation agreements, interacting with other departments and institutions, establishing and maintaining professional relationships, supporting recruiting and retention, and instituting and overseeing student internship opportunities.
- Serve on the Brown School of Business and Leadership Team.- Attend and participate in all Brown School of Business and Leadership faculty/staff meetings.- Work with relevant campus offices and program faculty, assess program quality and effectiveness on an ongoing basis based on IACBE and University guidelines.- Collaborate with other schools and offices on campus to ensure alignment, shared purpose, and achievement of shared goals.- Actively engage in collaborative pursuits and in forging relationships and partnerships with external and internal constituencies.- Schedule classes offered by the Accounting program in consultation with the BSOBL department chairs, the Dean, the Registrars Office and other relevant offices.- Hire, mentor, monitor and evaluate the performance of personnel in the Accounting programs according to established University guidelines and timetables.
  • Facilitate the development, implementation, and revision of program curriculum in collaboration with program faculty and staff and other relevant campus offices as needed.
  • Make recommendations regarding curriculum revision or development to the School and University administration, as appropriate.
  • Develop strategic initiatives and manage the program operating budget in consultation with the Dean of the Brown School of Business and Leadership, as appropriate.
  • Participate in recruitment initiatives, including, but not limited to, participating in Stevenson University open houses and accepted students days.
  • Engage in and support grant-writing and other scholarly pursuits in support of academic programs.
  • Investigate reports of academic misconduct involving Accounting courses and/or students according to university policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the grade appeal process as necessary according to university policies and procedures.
Instructional Activity
  • Engage in instructional activity totaling three-fourths of the full-time faculty load, as determined by rank and title.
  • Maintain teaching effectiveness by encouraging active student learning, reflecting and responding to student evaluations of teaching, and adjusting teaching strategies per recommendations from classroom observations, Faculty Mentoring and Evaluation Committee (FMEC), and supervisor evaluations.
  • Teaching responsibilities include time spent in classes and in immediate preparation for them; maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught; preparing teaching materials; conferring with students on course materials; directing individual and group studies; reviewing written or online projects and papers; evaluating presentations; and supervising independent study projects. Note that all SU courses use the BlackBoard Course Management System.
  • Evaluate, update, and revise courses regularly.
  • Participate in the assessment activities of the program, School, and University.
  • Serve in a collegial fashion and in accordance with professional and ethical principles when dealing with other faculty members, students, administrators, and members of the public.
  • Every faculty member is guaranteed academic freedom in accordance with the statement on academic freedom and responsibilities of faculty members, as in the policy manuals.
Scholarly Activity
  • Develop and maintain independent intellectual pursuits, including research and scholarly activities, that enhance teaching effectiveness.
  • Attend professional development workshops, meetings, and talks related to professional interests, including those of professional societies.
  • Pursue internal and external funding sources to support scholarly activity.
Service Activity
  • Offer quality advising services to students, including providing recommendations and resources to students on academic, co-curricular, career, and/or graduate school matters.
  • Department service includes contributing to student recruitment, retention, and registration efforts; attending departmental meetings; participating in Open Houses and recruiting efforts; attending and participating in planning and coordination of departmental events; and establishing industry relationships to generate internship and full-time placement opportunities for students.
  • University service includes, but is not limited to, service on the University, School, and Departmental committees.
  • Participate in ongoing departmental activities, such as curriculum development and assessment.
  • Attend all convocations, including commencement exercises.
  • Attend all University Faculty, Faculty/Staff, and relevant academic Department/School meetings.
