Stevenson UniversitySummary:
This is a full-time, 9-month, campus-based, open-rank faculty position in the Information Systems Department, Brown School of Business and Leadership (BSOBL) with responsibilities for teaching, course development, student advising and mentoring, service to the school, department, and university, and continued scholarship in the field. Teaching responsibilities include 24-30 contact hours per academic year, commensurate with rank and may include undergraduate and graduate courses in the campus-based and online Computer Information Systems (CIS) and/or Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics (CDF) programs. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, student recruitment, retention, and placement efforts; program assessment; and engagement in the life of the university. The full-time CIS/CDF faculty member fulfills all responsibilities of a full-time faculty member as defined in the Stevenson University Policies and the BSOBL Full-Time Faculty Job Description. Rank and title will be determined at the time of hire and will be commensurate with education and experience.
Department: School of Business & Leadership: Computer Info Systems
Education/Experience:
Doctorate in Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field, plus college-level teaching experience in information systems, cybersecurity, digital forensics, software design, or related subjects, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates with relevant industry knowledge, experience, and professional certifications preferred. Candidates with a masters degree in the field will be considered for the rank of Lecturer.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability:
  • Demonstrated teaching ability in the areas of cybersecurity, information assurance, computer security, digital forensics, software development, and/or information systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in curriculum development, planning, implementation, and assessment of student learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and employ computer lab experiences to enhance student learning.
  • Ability to use classroom and learning management technologies (e.g., Blackboard).
  • Excellent interpersonal and cultural competency skills and demonstrated ability to communicate professionally with diverse constituencies.
  • Ability to create inclusive learning experiences that will help graduate and undergraduate students to develop professionally, intellectually, and socially.

Physical Requirements:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, keyboarding, and repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Position requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time and the ability to speak clearly and effectively for an extended period of time.
Essential Functions:
Instructional
  • Teach 24-30 credit hours per academic year, as assigned by Department Chair and commensurate with rank (12 credits/semester at the Assistant Professor or higher rank and 15 credits/semester as a Lecturer).
  • Teaching responsibilities include time spent in face-to-face and online courses and in immediate preparation for them; preparing teaching materials; conferring with and providing timely feedback to students on course-related matters; directing individual and group studies; reviewing projects and papers; evaluating assignments, examinations, presentations, and other course work in timely fashion; supervising independent study projects; and submitting mid-term and final grades. Stevenson University uses the Blackboard course management system.
  • Faculty administrative responsibilities include writing and/or updating syllabi each semester or term; reading and responding to emails; attendance verification, academic alerts, and other reports as requested; and alerting appropriate university personnel to student concerns on a timely basis.
  • Maintain teaching effectiveness by encouraging active student learning, reflecting and responding to student evaluations of teaching, and adjusting teaching strategies per recommendations from classroom observations, Faculty Mentoring and Evaluation Committee (FMEC), supervisor evaluations, and other relevant sources of feedback.
  • Schedule and hold at least three office hours per week.
  • Participate in general curriculum development and other departmental activities associated with a full-time University faculty position.
  • Conduct student advising activities including time spent providing students with support, resources, and/or recommendations regarding academic, curricular, career and/or graduate school matters.
  • Evaluate, update, and revise courses regularly.
  • Participate in the assessment activities of the Program, Department, School, and University.
  • Attend meetings and/or workshops related to instruction (e.g., teaching methods, assessment).
  • Implement new teaching methods in existing courses (includes incorporating evidence-based practice).
  • Mentor students in courses and/or projects related to specialty scholars program requirements.
  • Serve as course coordinator for course(s) as requested.
  • Provide course coordinators and/or Department Chair with all required course data, as related to course and program assessment and/or accreditation.
  • Evaluate and revise curricula as warranted and/or requested.

Service
  • Offer quality advising services to students, including providing recommendations and resources to students on academic, co-curricular, career and/or graduate school matters.
  • Department service includes contributing to student recruitment, retention, and registration efforts; attending departmental meetings; participating in Open Houses and recruiting efforts; attending and participating in planning and coordination of departmental events; and establishing industry relationships to generate internship and full-time placement opportunities for students.
  • University service includes, but is not limited to, service on the University, School and Departmental committees.
  • Engage and participate in the life and work of the program, department, School of the Sciences, and Stevenson University.
  • Participate in ongoing departmental activities, such as curriculum development and assessment.
  • Participate in faculty governance.
  • Attend all convocations, including commencement exercises.
  • Attend all University Faculty, Faculty/Staff meetings, and relevant academic Department/School meetings.
  • Mentor and advise new faculty.
  • Serve on Faculty Mentoring and Evaluation Committee(s) as assigned.
Scholarly Activity
  • Engage in professional scholarly activities to keep current in the field.
  • Develop and maintain independent intellectual pursuits, including research and scholarly activities that enhance teaching effectiveness.
  • Attend professional development workshops, seminars, and conferences.
  • Pursue internal and external funding sources to support scholarly activities.
