Stetner Construction Group is Hiring a Payroll Specialist Near Moses Lake, WA

We are looking for a qualified Payroll Clerk to assist in all activities regarding the management of employee compensation in the company. You will undertake a variety of tasks such as entering payroll information, calculating wages and making payments. An excellent payroll clerk has great understanding of the concept of confidentiality. You will be experienced in entering data with attention to detail and will have good maths skills to make the necessary calculations. The ideal candidate will be a thorough professional with good communication abilities. The goal is to carry out all payroll procedures with speed and accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Set up new employee records and update information for existing and terminating employees in Spectrum.
  • Update wage, withholding, and benefits tables in Spectrum prior to the effective date of any changes.
  • Begin processing payroll each Monday morning, audit for completeness and proper department/job/phase/cost center coding, route for approval or error resolution.
  • Determine payroll liabilities by calculating employee federal and state income and social security taxes and employer’s social security, unemployment, and workers’ compensation payments.
  • Make necessary and timely adjustments for raises, bonuses, commissions, and wage garnishments.
  • Make appropriate arrangements for signatures and distribution: auto-deposit, mailed, or hand distribution of pay checks.
  • Prepare weekly and month-end reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, nontaxable wages, and benefits contributions or payments.
  • Update the Job Board with actual project hours and non-productive time.
  • Prepare payroll tax, 401(k), HSA, child support payments, garnishments and pay all payroll liabilities in a timely manner.
  • Prepare Certified Payroll reports for all applicable projects and report hours and wages to the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries in a timely manner.
  • Maintain financial security by following and enforcing internal controls, checks, and balances. Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
  • Effectively communicates with corporate executives, managers, Department heads, Human Resources/Payroll Specialist, and the Accounting Manager regarding impacts to timely and accurate payroll processing.
  • Continuously improve payroll processing by working with time reporting and approving supervisors to improve payroll information collection, processing, data entry timeliness, and accuracy.
  • Maintain a well-organized physical workspace and filing system, both physical and electronic files.
  • Other duties which may be assigned from time to time by the Human Resources and/or Accounting Manager.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Deep understanding of payroll approval processing, posting, payment, record keeping, reporting procedures, and regulatory requirements in a Contractor or subcontractor construction business, preferably in electrical, HVAC, plumbing, piping, or low voltage trades.
  • High attention to detail and familiar with terminology and definitions of exemptions, taxes, deductions, leave of absence, disability, nontaxable wages, garnishments, workers compensation, unemployment, local, state, and federal employment taxes, etc.
  • Passionate about quality and holds him/herself to a high standard in meeting payroll accuracy and deadlines.
  • PC proficiency, including familiarity with MS office suite, ability to follow new procedures as directed.
  • Excellent teamwork skills and possesses integrity and trustworthiness. Capable of resolving payroll discrepancies by collecting, understanding, and properly entering payroll information.
  • Ability to read and interpret regulatory requirements, tax calculations, and payment schedules.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries and employee requests for payroll information.
  • Able to effectively communicate, in English verbally and in writing.
  • Organized individual who is quality and results oriented with the ability to consistently meet payroll deadlines without making errors.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality about Stetner employees, pay rates, company procedures, and other payroll information. Failure to maintain confidentiality may be interpreted as unethical, which may result in immediate termination.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 45 per week
