Stepping Stone Home Health Care is Hiring an Activity Assistant Near Marshall, MN

Develop, coordinate and implement resident activities/events that are designed for individuals with dementia. Encourage community participation by residents in activities providing physical, social, intellectual and spiritual development with an opportunity to use individual talents and skills. Assist Assisted Living Director with housing responsibilities which may include but not limited to tours, marketing and building relationships with resident families.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Prior experience in planning and implementing activities and events is preferred

· A sensitivity and aptitude for working with the elderly and/or disabled persons who have a dementia diagnosis.

· Able to understand the needs of seniors.

· Possess skills to communicate effectively with those you may supervise or those to whom you report and with tenants and their families.

· An understanding and ability to carry out an effective marketing program.

· Must pass a criminal background check

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Degree. Experience in senior care and have knowledge of dementia. Interest in Aromatherapy but is not necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Primary responsibilities will be conducted in clean, well-lit, climate-controlled areas such as client rooms, hallways, work rooms, client dining area and meeting rooms. The noise is usually moderate. Exposure to cleaning supplies and building equipment. Exposure to body fluids, infection, odors, illness and behavior of tenants. Some travel to meetings and seminars may be required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear; feel or smell.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move supplies, equipment, and materials weighing approximately 35-40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and depth perception, the ability to adjust focus.

Must have emotional stability needed to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

TECHNOLOGY: Must have knowledge of computers and Apple products. Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Supervisory Position: The Activities Assistant is responsible for working with all departments. They report directly to the Assisted living director.

· Will maintain a good working relationship with all team members

· Will train in new employees as needed

· Will provide communication and feedback to team members and other departments.

· Will make sure all tasks are being completed as deemed necessary

· Will report any changes in behaviors, health, or safety concerns.

· Will report any disciplinary concerns of team members to LALD and come up with a plan to deal with issue.

ACTIVITIES RESPONSIBLITIES/ DUTIES:

· Develop plans for programming that meets tenants’ needs each month

· Develop monthly activity calendar for both neighborhoods

· Develop monthly newsletter article

· Oversee and coordinate volunteer program

· Oversee education and training of new HHA staff to activities.

· Leads or assists with activity programming

· Engage residents to participate in planned activities

· Evaluate effectiveness of programming

· Help organize and set up for each day’s activities

· Assists with special events and family functions.

· Offers suggestions and ideas for improvement

· Appropriately communicates with tenant and/or tenant’s family

· Demonstrates good interpersonal skills.

· Assists tenants in developing interpersonal relationships in socializing effectively and in developing the confidence needed to participate in group activities.

· Must be compassionate and work with tact and ethical awareness.

· Must be flexible and adaptable to changing situations.

· Must be able to prioritize and organize work effectively and efficiently.

· Communicate and cooperate with Assisted Living Director, Nursing and Dining Services in planning activities and events.

· Promotes tenants’ independence, not dependence, by offering choices and fostering self-help skills.

· Must be punctual, with satisfactory attendance record. Provide proper notice of tardiness or absence.

· Must have knowledge of crafts and games; record keeping procedures, activity procedures and knowledge of the community.

· Decorate building for holidays and events

· Assist w/ meals as needed. This includes but is not limited to serving, setting table, clearing table, and wiping down area afterwards.

MARKETING RESPONSIBLITIES/DUTIES:

· Provide tours and explanation of services to potential residents, families and referrals when Assisted Living Director requests

  • Update Boulder Creek website and social media sites.

· Coordinate events in community room and private dining room

· Attend community meetings as requested by Assisted Living Director

· Assist Assisted Living Director as needed in this area.

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBLITIES/DUTIES:

· Oversee individuals leading activities/events

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

· Works as a team member with other personnel, RN, Assisted Living Director, and the community.

· Ability to learn and assist in other areas of the building.

· Report resident changes or issues to the Assisted Living Director, RN or LPN on duty.

· Responds appropriately to safety hazards, fire drills and other emergency situations.

· Reports injuries to self, tenants or visitors immediately to the supervisor.

· Maintains at all times privacy and confidentiality of tenant, tenants’ records and tenants’ living environment.

· Understands and adheres to the Vulnerable Adult and Abuse prevention policy. Is familiar with the home care Bill of Rights and adheres to it.

· Document as required.

· Report needed supplies to the Assisted Living Director.

· Offers suggestions and ideas for improvement.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILTIES:

· Must be punctual, attendance satisfactory; provide proper notice of tardiness or absences.

· Required to complete dementia education at hire and do continuing education as needed.

· Attends department meetings as required.

· Must follow building dress code, maintain good personal hygiene and grooming.

· Must be mature and emotionally stable, use a calm, kind tone of voice with residents, staff and family members.

· Must be able to prioritize and organize work efficiently to accomplish workload within time allotted.

· Must be adaptable and flexible to changing situations.

· Must be compassionate toward the elderly, and work with tact and ethical awareness, ensure personal tenant information is kept confidential.

· Must work as a team member. Must be willing to help others, assist with maintaining a clean work and storage area.

· Must maintain a positive attitude.

· Must respond appropriately to safety hazards and emergency situations.

· Must follow safety rules and regulations.

· Report injuries/accidents to supervisor immediately per building procedures.
