Stephen F. Austin University is Hiring an Accountant I Near Nacogdoches, TX

This is a professional position responsible for performing routine accounting work in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), state and federal laws/regulations, and university policy. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to assigned supervisor.
Essential Job Functions
  • Develops and maintains financial records.
  • Prepares and analyzes financial reports.
  • Balances and reconciles accounts.
  • Prepares and posts journal entries and budget changes.
  • Verifies accuracy of accounting data and entries.
  • Compiles and analyzes data.
  • Prepares special reports as requested.
  • Prepares invoices for grants, contracts, or scholarships.
  • Reviews accounts for errors and discrepancies.
  • Assists student and clerical employees with accounting related functions.
Non-Essential Job Functions
  • May receive and/or supervise the receipt of payments from students and others for departmentally sponsored activities.
  • May assist with student registration.
  • May supervise student workers and other employees.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and principles.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
  • Ability to learn office- and university-specific software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to compile, organize, interpret, and communicate accounting data and results in a concise format.
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
Physical Demands Required Education
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or a related field is required.
Required Experience and Training
No direct experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in accounting is preferred.
Special Conditions for Eligibility
This is a security-sensitive position subject to criminal record check.
This is an IT-sensitive position subject to the Computer and Network Security policy.
Min Pay Rate Mid Pay Rate Salary Information Commensurate with Experience, Hiring Salary - $32,000-$43,982 Specific Job Requirements/Duties for this Posting
This position is located in Financial Reporting and reports to the associate director.
Is Background Check Required? Yes Benefit and Retirement Eligibility
This position is eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
