About us

STEPFORWARD is a Community Rehabilitation Provider for the Texas Workforce Commission. Our goal is to empower disabled high school students by providing comprehensive support and resources to foster college and career readiness, advocating for seamless transitions to post-secondary education, vocational opportunities, and employment.

Program Goal:

Services aim to support students with disabilities as they transition from high school to post-secondary education or employment by providing the skills, resources, and support necessary to explore career options, develop job readiness skills, and make informed decisions about their future success.

Job Description:

Provide high-energy workshops DURING THE SCHOOL DAY to prepare enrolled youth aged 16-22 with documented disabilities to transition successfully to post-secondary and employment.

Workshops prepare students in one or more of the following areas:

  • job exploration
  • work-based learning opportunities
  • workplace readiness skills
  • self-advocacy
  • post-secondary & transition counseling

Functional Role:

  • Conduct individual and/or small group sessions to increase college and career opportunities for students
  • Facilitate weekly workshops for small groups of 6 students, both in-person and online, during the school day
  • Modify curricula to support students with a wide range of disabilities
  • Serve as subject matter expert and liaison to teachers, school administrators, and parents
  • Participate in monthly meetings with stakeholders to provide updates on students and goal attainment
  • Refer students to appropriate community and social service agencies to address unmet needs
  • Provide regular updates and communicate training and employment needs to the director
  • Document the activities of each student and maintain accurate and timely data
  • Complete required professional development in accordance with state policy

Required Education and Experience:

1) High school diploma or High School Equivalent (GED)

AND

2) At least one of the following:

  • Two years of experience working with students with disabilities, as verified with pay statements or a letter of verification, and a minimum of 30 semester hours of college credit with a minimum of 15 semester hours in special education, specific disabilities, social work, counseling, business, or a related field
  • 60 hours of college credit in special education, specific disabilities, social work, counseling, business, or a related field. Related fields must be approved by the statewide transition specialist.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • State Teaching Certification

Note: Exceptions may be granted for an individual who does not meet the educational requirements above if the total of that individual's work experiences clearly demonstrates that he or she is experienced in working with individuals with disabilities, especially transition-age individuals with disabilities.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week
