What You’ll Get to Do
As a Network Technician Jr. Lead at STEP, you will provide guidance and support to an elite team of Network Technicians and will be in a unique position to contribute to and help develop STEP’s growth. You will be focused on the efficient integration, operation, and delivery of diverse STEP networking and managed services solutions. This role will also afford you the opportunity to continue to build your career and obtain industry and manufacturer-specific certifications.

- Develop and maintain effective relationships with management, customers, partners, and team members.
- Ability to translate and communicate technical concepts, information, plans, and procedures to both technical personnel and non-IT business users.
- Maintain positive relationships with customers that includes successful issue remediation, follow up, and feedback.
- Interact effectively with technical personnel and with a wide variety of technical resources.
- Possess strong self-initiative and eagerness to learn.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Function as a smart hands technician on behalf of Engineering team members.
- Show aptitude towards leadership by helping Lead and Manager to train and guide teammates.
- Provide input to the Network Technician Lead and Manager regarding coaching, counseling, and performance appraisal of Network Technician team.
- Operate with Safety Always mindset. Understand and monitor for OSHA, STEP, and other common sense safety practices.
- Physical installation/placement of equipment including, but not limited to, network switches, VSPs, wireless access points (indoor and outdoor), phones, and security cameras in classrooms, network closets, gyms, offices, government buildings, and residential exteriors.
- Handle receipt and inventory of equipment. Prepare equipment for deployment to customer locations including unboxing network equipment, putting rack ears on switches, and placing fan and/or power supplies in switches.
- Use various tools for building and installing network equipment with extensive use of ladders and some work on lifts.
- Perform site preparation, site cleanup, and testing of equipment.
- Willing to jump in and assist with any work efforts or responsibilities as needed.
- Ability to work outside of normal business hours on occasion as needed.
- Travel as needed per project requirements.
- Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Ideal Candidate’s Qualifications and Experience
- Any combination of training, education, and/or experience that provides for the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties listed above.
- Experience in guiding and leading customer focused teams delivering technical solutions.
- Ability to effectively communicate with strong command in the English language.
- Detail oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Open to learning new technologies.
- Possess basic understanding of Ethernet, WiFi, IP, VoIP and the OSI model.
- Proficiency with ConnectWise (Manage, Time & Expense), Paycor, Microsoft Teams, and Office 365 Productivity tools preferred but not required.
- Network Plus certification preferred.
- Technically minded with experience in implementing network infrastructure, cameras, and unified communication solutions.
- Ability to climb, crawl, utilize ladders, stoop, and bend.
- Ability to lift 50lbs on a regular basis.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Safety conscious.
- Professional in dress and demeanor.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
This job has on site requirements with some travel included as position duties require. Ideal candidates are located in or near the Cincinnati, OH-KY-IN Metropolitan Area.
