Job Summary:
The Dispatcher plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of ambulance services and providing exceptional customer service to our clients. In addition to answering incoming calls, scheduling non-emergency medical transports, and assisting with dispatching operations, the Dispatcher will also be responsible for conducting urinalysis and e-screens for QEH Occupational Medicine clients. The Dispatcher must possess strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Answer incoming calls from clients, patients, and healthcare professionals, providing accurate information and assistance as needed.
2. Schedule non-emergency medical transports for patients, ensuring timely and efficient service delivery while coordinating with EMTs and ambulance crews.
3. Assist with dispatching operations, including assigning units, coordinating logistics, and
tracking ambulance movements to ensure optimal response times and resource allocation.
4. Conduct urinalysis and e-screens for QEH Occupational Medicine clients, following
established protocols and procedures to ensure accurate testing and documentation.
5. Maintain accurate records of all calls, appointments, dispatch activities, and test results,
documenting relevant information in electronic systems and databases.
6. Provide exceptional customer service to clients and patients, addressing inquiries, concerns, and requests in a professional and courteous manner.
7. Collaborate with EMTs, ambulance crews, and other team members to troubleshoot issues, resolve conflicts, and ensure smooth operations.
8. Monitor communication channels, including radio transmissions and computer-aided dispatch systems, to stay informed of operational developments and respond accordingly.
9. Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities to enhance job-related skills and knowledge.
10. Adhere to established protocols, procedures, and regulations governing ambulance
operations, patient care, dispatching activities, and drug testing procedures.
11. Perform other duties as assigned by Dispatch Supervisor or Operations Manager.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a dispatching or customer service role preferred.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate information to diverse audiences via phone, email, and in-person interactions.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, with the capacity to prioritize tasks and
manage time efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in computer applications and software, including Microsoft Office and dispatching systems.
- Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure, demonstrating resilience and
adaptability in challenging situations.
- Customer-focused mindset, with a commitment to providing exceptional service and support to clients and patients.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.
- Familiarity with drug testing procedures and protocols preferred but not required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in dispatching, customer service, or related fields is a plus.
