Technology AspectTo establish a clear duty of care, Stellar Virtual and its affiliates require all employees to cover the costs associated with acquiring and providing the equipment (i.e., computers, internet service, telephone, home office setup, etc.) associated with virtual employment.

Position Overview

The Assistant Director of Academics for grades K-8 plays a pivotal role as the lead administrator on campus, overseeing daily operations and fostering a positive culture aligned with Stellar Virtual Schools' Core Values. This position entails ensuring high standards of instruction and student achievement, compliance with district policies, effective implementation of instructional programs, and smooth operation of all campus activities.

Essential Position Functions

  • Lead the campus instructional program, ensuring excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Oversee daily activities of staff and students to maintain a positive and productive learning environment.
  • Ensure compliance with district policies and procedures.
  • Implement and monitor instructional programs to meet academic goals.
  • Manage all aspects of campus operations to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Build strong relationships with students and families through clear communication and mutual understanding of expectations and obligations.
  • Implement and oversee programs that foster character development, ethical behavior, and social-emotional learning among students and staff.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor a comprehensive behavior management system that aligns with school policies and supports a safe and conducive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to develop an annual school calendar that incorporates academic, extracurricular, and administrative activities.
  • Coordinate with various departments to ensure smooth execution of events, holidays, testing schedules, professional development days, and other important school activities.
  • Address and resolve issues escalated by parents, students, or staff members in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain open lines of communication, listen actively to concerns, and work towards mutually satisfactory resolutions.
  • Ensure compliance with HR policies and procedures, including but not limited to performance management, disciplinary actions, and employee relations.
  • Maintain accurate records of HR-related escalations, investigations, and resolutions.
  • Offer guidance, resources, and mentorship to grade level supervisors and counselor lead to help them effectively fulfill their roles.
  • Foster collaboration and teamwork among staff members to promote student success and well-being.
  • Verify and finalize the master schedule, ensuring optimal utilization of resources, balanced class sizes, and alignment with academic goals.
  • Address any scheduling conflicts or issues that may arise, making adjustments as necessary to meet the needs of students and staff.
  • Collect, analyze, and maintain data related to cohort progress and performance criteria.
  • Generate reports and presentations to communicate data findings, trends, and recommendations to stakeholders, including school leadership, board members, ext. agencies.
  • Provide direction, support, and feedback to staff members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
  • Identify training needs, facilitate professional development sessions, and promote continuous learning and growth among staff.
  • Ensure alignment between academic initiatives and operational processes, identifying areas of synergy and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with academic and operational teams to streamline processes, optimize resources, and enhance overall organizational effectiveness.
  • Directly impact student outcomes by aligning TEKS to develop high quality instruction, utilizing NWEA, Bright Thinker and Teacher Observations data. 
  • Collaborate with Curriculum and Instruction Manager to support this hiring of highly qualified teachers and employees that support high standards of instruction and student achievement

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of successful teaching experience in K-8 education.
  • Administrative experience as Principal, Assistant Principal, or Dean of Instruction preferred.
  • Prior experience in school leadership or administrative roles preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Texas education laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Strong leadership abilities with the capacity to motivate and inspire staff and students.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficiency in educational technology and data-driven decision-making.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders, including parents, staff, and community.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive school culture aligned with core values.
  • Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and stay abreast of current trends.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in educational practices, policies and hiring.
  • Adept at data analysis; ability to extract meaningful insights across school-wide data
  • Deep understanding of appropriate application and differentiation of high-leverage instructional strategies based on comprehension of child/adolescent development and pedagogy.

Education & Certification Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field required.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Teaching Certification in the relevant grade levels or subjects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in instructional best practices and curriculum development.
  • Advanced knowledge of educational theory, research methodologies, and data analysis.
  • Valid Texas Principal or Other Appropriate Texas Certificate:
    • Hold a valid Texas Principal Certification or an equivalent administrative certificate.
  • Proven experience in school administration, leadership, and personnel management.
