RESIDENTIAL COUNSELOR

CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt, hourly

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Inpatient Program Manager

POSITION SUPERVISED: None

JOB SUMMARY:

Residential Counselor provides individual and group counseling services to the patients receiving care on the Stella Maris Residential unit and their families. The Counselor completes a comprehensive psychosocial assessment, formulates a treatment plan, and makes referrals for ongoing care as appropriate. The Counselor maintains appropriate documentation of all services and links clients to further chemical dependency services upon discharge.

RESPONSIBLITIES:

· Establishes a therapeutic alliance with clients while promptly responding to urgent issues

· Work cooperatively with other staff/disciplines as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team

· Conduct educational groups regarding substance abuse / dependence

· Conduct individual and group counseling where appropriate

· Ability to develop and implement individualized treatment plans

· Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all services

· Assess client progress and determine appropriate level of care

· Facilitates positive discharge from current level of care and ongoing care at next level of care

· Aids in meeting the standards of care established by Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services, Joint Commission, etc.

· Demonstrates knowledge of community resources for clients

· Represents Stella Maris with external agencies/professionals

· Maintains CPR certification and additional credentials

· Completes ongoing requirements for annual agency training compliance

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in counseling, social work, or related field are preferred

· CDCA eligible to apply; LSW, LISW, LCDC or comparable preferred

· A minimum of two years of experience in Behavioral Health, required

· Excellent oral and written communication skills and computer competency

· Demonstrated knowledge of addiction and withdrawal process, assessments, diagnosis, and treatment.
