Job Summary

Analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals and other documentation to prepare labor & material estimates for structural steel products, projects, or services

Essential Functions

• Prepares itemized lists by reviewing data to determine material and labor requirements
• Computes cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work, preparing bids, selecting vendors or subcontractors, and determining cost effectiveness
• Consults with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues
• Prepares scope of work along with all exclusions, clarifications and conditions. Lists all bid documents with dates used in preparation of estimate
• Performs other job duties as assigned by supervisor

Required Skills

• Five (5) years of structural steel estimating experience
• Basic understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection practices including knowledge of structural shapes and general industry terminology
• Ability to read and interpret construction documents including design drawings and specification documents
• Ability to read shop drawings a plus
• Experience with Microsoft software applications including MS Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Experience with PDF review/editing software (Bluebeam, Acrobat)
• Experience with Tekla EPM (Fabsuite)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong math and geometry skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting stringent deadlines
• Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to focus on given tasks
