Steel Nation is Hiring a Construction Estimator Near Canonsburg, PA

Steel Nation is a Turn-Key Construction & Engineering Firm with focus in the Energy, Water/Wastewater, Municipal, Commercial and Heavy industrial sector. To best serve our clients, Steel Nation is made up of three synergistic divisions: Steel Nation Buildings, Steel Nation Facilities Services, and Steel Nation Environmental.

Steel Nation is currently seeking a Construction Estimator to join our construction team. The ideal candidate will possess experience defining project scopes, obtaining costs for projects, and creating accurate project budgets across our Facilities Services and Environmental businesses.

What will I do:

  • Download and review bid documents to determine the project scope of work, site-specific conditions of importance, and contract requirements. Ensure all required information is provided and catalogued accordingly.
  • Perform accurate and timely takeoffs.
  • Where bid documents do not exist, coordinate with the business lead and customer to scope the project and determine a path forward.
  • Obtain bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials; identify qualified subcontractors; negotiate price.
  • Visit project sites as needed to determine site specific conditions and restrictions.
  • Assist in the preparation of cost estimates; understand accurate and complete scopes of work.
  • Prepare subcontractor bid proposal forms and subcontractor bid recording sheets for assigned trade; evaluate subcontractor input for scope inclusion while identifying any gaps.
  • Prepare customer quotation and forward to sales representative.
  • Assist in the quote evaluation and selection of vendors and subcontractors.
  • Utilize CRM tool to maintain controlled list of subcontractors and vendors who will contribute to Steel Nation’s fiscal success and quality outcomes.
  • Prepare construction budget when PO is issued against Steel Nation proposal.

What will make you a great fit:

  • Experience to include a minimum five years’ experience in areas such as Civil/Site Work, Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings, Steel Erection, and Interior Finishes in both an Industrial and Commercial environment
  • Strong construction knowledge including structure, foundation, erection, HVAC, interior buildout, electrical and plumbing trades
  • Experience with developing budgets, data analyzation, estimating, documentation, report creation
  • OSHA knowledge
  • Excellent detail-orientation, multitasking ability, and organizational skills
  • Self-starter with business acumen and a drive for successful outcomes with a quality focus
  • Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs, Adobe Acrobat, and Bluebeam
