Position

As a Computational Scientist in the Protein Design group, you will be a crucial member of our interdisciplinary team, comprising highly creative and talented biologists, computational scientists, and other drug discovery team members. This group is responsible for generating molecules using state of the art AI models, identifying gaps in model capabilities and helping improve them. You will work collaboratively with protein designers, biologists, computational scientists, and other drug discovery team members.

You are an enthusiastic scientist who takes pride in your ability to span both computational and experimental worlds. You have a deep understanding of the latest computational methods in the field and a strong understanding of biochemistry and structural biology. You are excited about drug discovery and developing novel treatments for patients. You are conscientious, detail-oriented, organized, and dedicated to reproducible science and optimizing lab workflows. You enjoy mentoring and teaching junior members. Collaboration comes naturally to you, and you thrive in a fast-paced environment where pushing the boundaries of what is possible is the norm.

Qualifications

• PhD in bioengineering, biophysics, biochemistry, computational biology, chemical engineering, or related field plus 7 years experience.
• Hands-on experience (5 years) in protein design and engineering, with a deep understanding of biochemical and computational considerations for protein design.
• Expertise with a high-level programming language such as Python and modern HPC and cloud compute workflows
• Hands-on experience with RosettaFold, RFdiffusion, AlphaFold, or ESMFold
• Deep structural knowledge of proteins
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
• Strong curiosity of areas of biology previously unknown to you
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet project timelines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present complex scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with researchers from diverse fields, including computational and experimental biologists, and provide scientific guidance, support, and leadership as needed.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor early-stage scientists and associates.

Nice to have Skill(s)

• Hands-on experience (2 years) in developing machine learning and AI algorithms for protein design
• Strong publication record in protein design and engineering for therapeutic protein applications.
• Experience using LIMS and Benchling systems. Substantial experience with DNA synthesis and protein production CROs and lab vendors.
