State of Wisconsin is Hiring a Nurse Prescriber Near Madison, WI

Introduction

The Department of Health Services (DHS), Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) is currently recruiting for a Nurse Prescriber.

MMHI is located on the north side of Madison and offers a beautiful campus environment, convenient free parking and an onsite workout facility. MMHI is an inpatient psychiatric facility, with one outpatient program, specializing in serving patients with complex psychiatric conditions, often combined with certain problem behaviors. Position Summary

As the Nurse Prescriber, you will be responsible for the provision of comprehensive care for adult populations which involves a high degree of clinical expertise in providing preventive and primary care in an institutional setting. You will function independently in managing the direct and indirect care of individuals in collaboration with all disciplines of the Program of Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) team. Responsibilities include:

  • Educating patients to promote wellness, prevent health problems, maintain current health, and intervene in acute and chronic illness.
  • Planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating care and coordinating these plans with the ACT team.
  • Completing initial assessments and prescribing medications.
  • Collaborating and working closely with members of the ACT multidisciplinary teams (i.e., PACT Unit Supervisor, PACT Psychiatrist, and ACT Nurses).
  • Implementing the diagnosis and treatment of assigned patients.
  • Staying current on recent developments in the field of Psychiatry.

Salary Information

The starting pay is $62.70 per hour (approximately $130,400 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP) and is in pay schedule and range 11/01.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by MMHI or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all the following:

  • License or eligible for license as an APNP by the State of Wisconsin (WI). Eligible includes you being currently registered as an APNP in another state and eligible to obtain licensure in WI. License must be obtained by time of appointment.
  • Ability to work on call when needed which may include overtime, weekends, holidays, etc.

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

  • Experience or training of DHS, State and Federal regulations for care and treatment.
  • Experience applying nursing theory, nursing process, and evidenced based practice nursing standards of care.
