The Division of Facilities and Transportation Services (DFTS), Bureau of Building Management is looking to hire a Facilities Maintenance Specialist-Advanced position headquartered at the La Crosse State Office Building: 3550 Mormon Coulee Road, La Crosse, Wisconsin 54601.

Position Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Specialist-Advanced position is primarily responsible for performing inspection and maintenance for their assigned facilities. Previous experience in commercial facility maintenance is desired but not required to be eligible for this position. The position assists with repairing and maintaining heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing and electrical systems. The employee in this position will also perform preventive maintenance and make minor repairs to equipment. Job duties also include maintaining state property which includes outside structures and grounds.

Salary Information

This position is in schedule-range (03-13) with a rate of pay of $22.78 an hour. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Job Details

Due to the nature of the position, DOA will conduct background checks on applicants prior to selection. You may be required to complete a DOJ fingerprinting background check as well. DOA does not sponsor work visas. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States, and to complete the required employment eligibility form.

Some requirements specific to this position include:

  • Ability to work some nights and weekends to respond to critical building issues, conduct preventive maintenance and testing of the systems
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders and scaffold and work at heights above 20 feet in order to reach HVAC/Refrigeration and building equipment, to perform duties within extreme temperature ranges for performing outdoor maintenance in the summer and the winter, and to enter, exit and perform duties in confined spaces to address equipment performance problems is required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., with or without assistance, and stoop, crawl under or over equipment and other non-standard height spaces in order to perform repair and maintenance duties is required.
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to meet DOA Fleet standards in order to drive state-owned vehicles for the performance of job duties, or the ability to provide one’s own transportation.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have education, training, or experience in the following:

  • Inspecting, maintaining, and repairing mechanical equipment
  • Customer service (e.g. assisting with tenant and public needs)
  • Maintenance of grounds including lawn care, snow removal and planting

In addition, well-qualified applicants may have education, training or experience in:

  • Operation of computer data systems (e.g. automated building management system (BMS) and Computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • Interpret Direct Digital Control (DDC) system information to trend performance and initiate adjustments
  • Building construction and repair (e.g. remodel, preventative maintenance, or similar)
  • Chemical water treatment and testing for boilers and cooling towers
  • Coordinating and assisting trades workers and contractors in repair of building equipment and grounds
  • Monitoring and testing of building safety systems and equipment
