About the Team
The Public Markets Operations division is responsible for providing operational support for Global Public Markets Strategies and investments. The division is responsible for maintaining the investment book of record, providing quality service to investment management teams, and supporting agency strategic initiatives.
The Investment Operations Analyst is responsible for leading evaluation, planning, and execution related to the operational initiatives, process improvements and functionality enhancements. The role will also be responsible for leading the development and maintenance of the processes utilized by Operations division. This role requires deep investment industry and operations knowledge allowing the incumbent to effectively analyze, design, model/prototype, test, and guide the implementation of operational projects and processes utilized by operational teams. The role partners with Operations and other cross-functional business units to ensure that SWIB’s project integrations are appropriately designed to meet business needs and be effectively supported over time. The role serves as a representative on complex agency initiatives and partners with Operations and other cross-functional leaders.
Position Overview
Essential activities:
  • Identifies and evaluates operational business initiatives to provide guidance on tools, efficiency opportunities, risks, processes, and controls.
  • Performs advanced analytics of various aspects of operations, monitors effectiveness, and identifies findings to Operations Director.
  • Coordinates and facilitates planning processes to involve appropriate stakeholders. Develops ad-hoc information and analyses as needed to support ongoing management and decision making.
  • Ensures plans are prepared to execute effective integration of overlapping projects. Tracks progress compared to planned goals and ensures timely communication to stakeholders about the status of projects being planned or implemented. Provides oversight, assistance, and tracking of implementation tasks.
  • Performs advanced analytics of various aspects of operations, monitors effectiveness, and identifies findings to Operations Director.
  • Assembles business requirements and planning documentation at the appropriate level of detail for each work effort, communicate cross-functional impacts and any required integration effort has been identified ahead of the solution.
  • Works collaboratively with other divisions to execute initiatives/improvements, promote knowledge sharing, and adoption of best practices.
  • Leads, facilitates, and coordinates meetings with Operations leads to prioritize work requests.
  • Develops a deep understanding of applicable operational processes, procedures, and controls. Provides leadership in continuous quality improvement.
  • Researches escalated business issues and assist in the creation of integrated models/workflows that resolve the root cause of these problems.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities for process, system, or other enhancements that may help Operations or mitigate operational risk and/or achieve its investment and other business goals.
  • Develops, executes, and documents user test plans and organize and oversee end-user testing and acceptance.
  • Develops, or assist in the development, of end-user training materials and coordinate / conduct user training. Coordinate resolution of issues uncovered during end-user testing based on results.
  • Identifies opportunities for process, system or other improvements that may help the business unit or SWIB as a whole achieves its investment and other business goals.
The ideal candidate:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or equivalent experience. Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in finance, accounting, or related industry.
  • Prefer experience with Simcorp Dimension.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of investment operations, middle office processes, and back-office processes.
  • Experience in a variety of asset classes including equities, fixed income, and derivatives both exchange traded and OTC.
  • Ability to work effectively and independently to manage tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility and receptiveness to new and different ideas.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate within an investment organization and/or operations division.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be adaptive and thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Superb work ethic, attention to detail, team orientation, and commitment to excellence.

The position requires U.S. work authorization.
Pursuant to our Hybrid Remote Work Policy, all staff have the flexibility to work remotely, but are required to have a weekly presence in our offices, the frequency of which is dependent on their distance from office. Staff are not required to reside locally; however, we offer relocation reimbursement to the Dane County area per our policy.
