THE POSITION

Parks / Elk River Trail State Park / Clay County Under general supervision, this employee will perform experienced journey level work maintaining and repairing a variety of equipment used in heating, cooling, and general operation of Elk River Trail State Park and its facilities;

including the 70 plus miles of trail along the Elk River and the various structures and facilities that will be developed.

This work will include, but not be limited to, installing, operating, and maintaining building environmental control (HVAC) equipment;

plumbing and piping systems; and interior and exterior lighting systems. Employee will use electrical or gas welding, brazing and cutting equipment to accomplish various plumbing and structural repairs and modifications, and will also perform preventive maintenance on heating and cooling equipment such as tightening fan belts, changing filters, and providing lubrication.

Employee will perform maintenance and repairs of the vehicle fleet and the mowing, sawing, and excavation equipment. Job will include the operation of chainsaws and other motorized equipment to keep the trail clear and open for the public recreation use.

Job will include the towing of heavy duty trailers while hauling equipment from one section of the trail to another. Job requires carpentry skills to build, make repairs, and install park signage.

Occasional roofing and painting of buildings and posts will be required. Employee will perform grounds maintenance including grass cutting and sod repair using hand mowers, riding mowers, farm tractors, excavators, and backhoes and may occasionally participate in the snow removal plan by removing snow and ice from building entrances, walks, roadways, parking areas, and other designated areas assigned by supervisor.

This employee may serve as a lead worker for a small maintenance crew. Employee will supervise the work of other maintenance team members and will provide direction and guidance in the absence of the Park Superintendent.

Must have a valid drivers license. Shift work and call-back work may be required. Other job duties to be performed as required.

Regular attendance is required.

Training : Graduation from a standard four-year high school or GED or four year apprenticeship program or two year post secondary technical school.

Substitution : Experience in air-conditioning, heating or refrigeration may be substituted for the required training on a year-for-year basis.

Experience : Four years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in heating, cooling, ventilation or the mechanical or building trades such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plasterer, painter, welder, machinist, mechanic or masonry work.

Special Requirement : Specific positions may require certification from a federal EPA approved testing organization as a certified technician required by the clean Air Act on refrigerant recycling.
