This position, under the supervision of the Toxicology 3 supervisor, serves as a technical lead within the Site Assessment and Toxicology Section. Its key responsibilities include conducting assessments, offering recommendations on diverse human health toxicological issues, and collaborating with DOH programs, external agencies like the EPA and the Washington State Department of Ecology, other public health agencies, and Tribal governments to tackle public health threats from environmental contaminants.
The duty station for this full-time permanent Toxicologist 2 (TOX2) position is in Tumwater, WA, telework (mobile work) is currently expected for most work activities. You may be expected to report to DOH offices or attend in-person meetings with office staff, and internal and external partners around the state as determined by your supervisor to meet business needs.

Required Qualifications

Option 1: Master of Science degree in toxicology or in a health or ecological-related science (e.g., chemistry, environmental science) with a major emphasis in toxicology, and three years of relevant toxicology experience, such as analyzing toxicological and health data; evaluating toxicology research literature; conducting exposure assessments and evaluating the exposures and effects of toxic chemicals on health outcomes, and identifying priority environmental toxicological issues
Option 2: Ph.D. degree in toxicology or in a health or ecological-related science (e.g., chemistry, environmental science) with a major emphasis in toxicology and one year of relevant toxicology experience, such as analyzing toxicological and health data; evaluating toxicology research literature; conducting exposure assessments and evaluating the exposures and effects of toxic chemicals on health outcomes and identifying priority environmental toxicological issues.
