Information Technology Services Division 

Infrastructure and Operations Unit
 Olympia, Washington – Thurston County

The Systems Administration Team within the Infrastructure Operations Unit specifically focuses on configuring and administering agency-level business applications, ensuring safety, operations, communication, collaboration, and business process support. The team collaborates with other IT staff to improve infrastructure capabilities, maintain operational and security processes, identify business solutions, and remain flexible and innovative in enhancing WDFW's mission support.

As part of our team, you'll dive into exciting responsibilities such as Microsoft 365 Administration, mobile device management, satellite device management, and implementing enterprise software solutions. Your work will directly impact how WDFW employees operate in challenging environments, ensuring they have the tools and connectivity needed for safety, security, and efficient operations. Collaborate with our dynamic IT staff, design innovative solutions, and contribute to the development of new services that elevate WDFW's ability to fulfill its mission of wildlife conservation and habitat protection.

Some of what our Satellite Phones System Admin is responsible for, 

Cloud Iridium Satellite SaaS Solution and Device Administration: 

  • Responsible for end-to-end Centrally managed Iridium Satellite (SAT) Phone Service offering.
  • Configure, maintain, and administer the Enterprise Solution for Agency Satellite Phones to support the Agency Safety Policy and Procedures. 
  • Responsible to setup and service Satellite Phones
  • Configure, manage and troubleshoot operating environment and devices.
  • Assist in researching, planning and executing agencywide migration of existing Iridium Satellite Phones.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues related to satellite phones, antennas, and associated equipment. 
  • Provide technical support to end-users and collaborate with cross-functional teams to address system-related challenges.

Support System Administration Team in these other Functional Areas: 

  • Entra and On-Prem Active Directory Administration
  • Mobile Device Management (MDM) Administration and Support
  • Microsoft 365 Apps and Power Platform
  • Policy, Procedure and Training Administration

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work Setting, including hazards:
    • Hybrid Telework options possible. 
    • Office setting may require work in small difficult to access areas and has an open concept floor design. 
  • Schedule:
    • Part time – four (4) hours per day during normal business hours. 
    • Hours may be adjusted at the discretion of the supervisor. 
    • Occasional off hours’ work may be required.
  • Travel Requirements:
    • Travel to facilities and job sites as needed especially for Satellite and Mobile Device support
  • Tools and Equipment:
    • Computers, Mobile Devices, Satellite Devices, Telephones, and Cabling.
  • Customer Interactions:
    • Deal directly with end user support staff, WDFW employees and External Vendors. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree in IT related field AND one (1) year of recent (within the last five years) experience working as system administrator in a medium to large organization. 

PLUS

  • One (1) year experience in eachof the following:
    1. Configuring and troubleshooting iPhones and iPads,
    2. Entra and On-Prem Active Directory Administration, 
    3. M365 and Power Platform Administration. 

Closely related qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-by-year basis.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following: 

  • In-depth knowledge of satellite communication systems, hardware, and protocols.
  • Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting satellite phones, antennas, and associated equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with configuring and troubleshooting satellite phones.
  • Basic network troubleshooting skills, knowledgeable in network security.
