Salary: $4,072.00 - $5,479.00 The salary does not include an additional 5% premium pay for employees working in King County or an on-site 24/7 facility 5% premium.

The Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) is accepting applications for Juvenile Rehabilitation Counselors (JRC1) to support juvenile counseling services by creating pathways for self-sufficiency through meaningful partnerships, employment, new opportunities and effective rehabilitation services.

The Opportunity:
We need your motivation and engagement to assist our counselors in providing comprehensive case management, transition and reentry planning, counseling, and treatment services. You will supervise an assigned caseload of youth for compliance with program and treatment plan requirements and prepare youth and their families for re-entry back into the community.
Some of what you'll do:
  • Assist residential counselors to assess behavior and monitor youth compliance with case plan and program requirements.
  • Support and monitor youth participation in appropriate treatment services.
  • Co-facilitate Dialectical Behavior Therapy & Cognitive Behavioral Therapy groups.
  • Perform routine security duties.
  • Conduct wellness checks, living unit building security checks, key checks room searches for contraband, pat and/or strip searches of youth, assist in search and apprehension of escapees.
  • Assign and supervise youth chores within a living unit to meet health and hygiene standards.
  • Supervise or serve meals to resident groups; monitor movement of residents to and from central areas such as school, medical, and recreation facilities.
  • Organize and supervise group recreational activities.
What we're looking for
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
OR
Two years of college education from an accredited institution, AND two years of experience as a Juvenile Rehabilitation Security Officer.
OR
Equivalent combination of education and/or experience totaling four years.
Degree must be obtained from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or foreign equivalent verified by a NACES-approved organization at naces.org
Foreign Equivalency certification must be attached to the application for degrees obtained outside the U.S. Incomplete applications may be screened out of the recruitment process.
In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following:
  • Demonstrated understanding of adolescent development and juvenile rehabilitation practices and principles; experience providing cognitive/behavioral therapeutic interventions.
  • Demonstrated competency in relating to clients from diverse backgrounds and cultural groups.
  • Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends, and influences related to juvenile delinquency.
