Correctional Industries (CI) is committed to maintain and expand incarcerated work training programs which develop marketable skills, instill and promote positive work ethics and reduce the tax burden of corrections. This position supports that objective by assisting with the supervision and training of offender workers in the food services industry.Duties include, but are not limited to:Provide supervision and training of incarcerated workers.
  • Observe and supervise offender workers operating equipment and machinery.
  • Train incarcerated workers in safe food handling practices, to include participation with instruction of the ServSafe course.
  • Train incarcerated workers in progressive cooking, portion control and quality control.
  • Document and provide feedback on incarcerated worker job performance and behavior.
  • Prepare incarcerated worker personnel actions. 
Planning and scheduling of resources.
  • Direct and assign incarcerated workers.
Ensure incarcerated individuals receive safety training and adhere to safe work practices.
  • Maintain proper recordkeeping.
  • Investigate accident reports.
  • Participate in and/or conduct monthly safety committee/meetings.
Ensure safe and secure operations
  • Maintain accurate timekeeping.
  • Participate and conduct inventory control and counts.
Required:
  • One (1) year full time work experience in a food service, food manufacturing, food processing, or institutional feeding environment.
OR
  • One (1) year total full time work experience as a Correctional Industries Supervisor Assistant within the Washington State Department of Corrections.
AND
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products or equivalent software programs.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in routine and emergent situations.
  • Ability to develop and promote positive and professional interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to set and manage priorities.
Desired:
  • More than one (1) year full time work experience in a food service, food manufacturing, food processing, OR institutional feeding environment.
  • An AA degree or Vocational Certificate/degree from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or foreign equivalent.
  • Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) software knowledge.
  • Experience in teaching and training.
  • Experience working within a correctional facility.
Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service and other required training.
  • Provide physical residential address and home telephone number to the Department of Corrections.
  • Become familiar and comply with all DOC policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
  • Must currently possess or obtain a valid State of Washington Food and Beverage Service Worker's Permit within 14 days of hire a valid Food Handlers Certification as required by Washington State Department of Health, and maintain active throughout employment.
  • This position is included in a union shop
  • Must pass pre-employment UA test.
