DSHS Lake Burien Health Records Technician 2
Be a part of something new! The Lake Burien Transitional Care Facility is being stood up by Washington state’s Department of Social and Health Services, the Department of Children, Youth and Families, Health Care Authority with generous support from MultiCare and Seattle Children’s Hospital.
In this role, you'll be responsible for the security and confidentiality of protected health information and requires advanced knowledge of health information management practices and ICD-10-CM coding. We are looking for a detail-oriented individual to join our highly motivated team.
The facility will open with 12 beds and 108 full-time employees with potential growth to 24 beds and 196 full-time employees. The property was designed with children and youth in mind and features accessible spaces for onsite educational services and therapies, as well as access to outdoor space. The voluntary facility will initially serve 12 youth.
This new therapeutic facility is slated to open in July to help youth, age 13 and older, with co-occurring intellectual and developmental disabilities who have complex needs such as mental illness or substance use disorder.
King County employees receive 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary and are eligible to receive a free ORCA card for transportation use.
Some of what you'll do:

  • Prepare for and become a subject matter expert on the electronic health record system at implementation and provide technical guidance and training to hospital staff
  • Independently provide expert determination on and responses to all types of medical records requests, using knowledge and understanding of HIPAA, and the WACs and RCWs regarding release of information
  • Locate and retrieve patient medical records from different wards and prepare to sort out, scan and upload to EHR (Wellsky).
  • Perform expert level audits of staff documentation. Conduct thorough chart reviews, analyzing for and abstracting significant diagnoses, correctly assigning and sequencing ICD-10-CM codes
  • Assist in devising timely solutions to multidepartment concerns, providing guidance and support
  • Identify professional staff needs and contribute to the development and implementation of solutions
  • Create and maintain electronic databases
  • Maintain and monitor established record keeping, filing and database systems
  • Work in partnership with other HIM team members to provide excellent service to the department’s various customers
Who should apply?
Bachelor's Degree in health information management, business administration or related field
And
Three years of experience in HIM (medical records), office management, healthcare privacy or compliance or closely related area
Positions generally require current and ongoing accreditation through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
