ALTSA Social Service Specialist 2
Do you have the compassion and motivation to work with and protect seniors and people with disabilities? Join our team and be part of our hard-working team of professionals at Home and Community Services Office. This position is located in Seattle, Washington.
In this role, you will process referrals, intakes, and applications for vulnerable adults and/or their caregivers who are seeking assistance for Long Term Care (LTC) and Medicaid Transformation Demonstration programs.
King County employees receive 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary and are eligible to receive a free ORCA card for transportation use.
Some of what you will do:

  • Conduct initial contacts via telephone or in our office lobby with clients, family members, and/or authorized representatives of clients who have applied for services
  • Provide education about eligibility criteria for all long-term care supports and services
  • Research and follow up on referrals, obtaining clarifying information as needed using other systems and collaterals
  • Utilize the Department’s Comprehensive Assessment Reporting Evaluation (CARE) computerized tool to document the client's reported care needs and what is needed to establish eligibility for services
  • Process applications and referrals for adults and/or their caregivers who are seeking services
  • Provide options counseling for clients who have applied for both MAC/TSOA and LTC
  • Determine Nursing Facility Level of Care for those clients who are seeking services through MAC/TSOA or LTSS via Presumptive Eligibility (PE)
  • Provide education about the functional and financial eligibility criteria
  • Ensure data is entered accurately and in a timely fashion
We are looking for professionals who demonstrate:
  • Ability to communicate and comprehend through oral and written forms of communication
  • Coordinating multiple tasks in various stages of completion
  • Proficiency in using a computer and various computer programs
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality of all client data
  • Handling intense and high-pressure situations
  • Knowledge of community resources for elderly, disabled adults, and caregivers
Who should apply?
Professionals who have one of the following:
A Bachelor's degree or higher in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, criminal law/justice, or an allied field, not required.
Or, 12 months experience as a Social Service Specialist 1
Or, A minimum of 5 years experience and/or related education in providing assistance to clients/customers regarding inquiries, complaints or problems, such as: resolving and guiding clients, families, and advocates through state or federal agencies, community services and problem-solving complex complaints, inquiries and customer service-related issues from client’s, related to mitigating services provided by community, city, state, and federal and community agencies. A two-year master’s degree in one of the abovefields that includes a practicum will be substituted for one year of paid social service experience.
Note: Employees must successfully complete the formal training course sponsored by their division within 12 months of their appointment.
