Description

DSHS ESH Security Guard 2 - On Call
We are seeking on-call Security Guards, expected to work full-time, 40 hours a week at Eastern State Hospital (ESH) in Medical Lake, WA. As a Security Guard, you will be responsible for the security and safety of the staff, patients, visitors, and property at ESH. This is a great opportunity to work for the state!

We are seeking people who can quickly adapt to their environment and have the skills to proactively manage situations and be effective members of our team. In this role, you will need to intervene and de-escalate in crisis or dangerous situations. Join us on our mission to Transform Lives!

Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary. Evening and night shifts include a differential in the standard compensation rate.
Those hired for these opportunities are entitled to an additional 2.5% assignment pay in addition to the advertised salary.

Some of what you will do:
  • Gather information for Law Enforcement, identify witnesses, and obtain initial statements
  • Confiscate and secure contraband, write reports
  • Patrol campus, provide protection for hospital staff, patients, visitors, and property
  • Operate patrol vehicle or patrol on foot
  • Intervene and de-escalate in crisis/dangerous situations
  • Provide security presence, walk-throughs, and safety checks on the wards
  • Issue parking violation notices as appropriate
  • Operate a camera, computer, copier/scanner, and other provided software to complete Security Activity Reports, email, and other communications as required
  • Act as liaison between emergency responders and the hospital leadership
  • Assist in gathering evidence and facts involving criminal activity and present evidence to courts and/or Law Enforcement
  • Maintain a 24-hour logging system
  • Respond to all fire, smoke, intrusion, and burglar alarms
  • Operate a two-way radio, telephone, personal alarms, and metal detectors
  • Ensure accountability of equipment, keys, I.D badges, and other controlled items
  • Acts as a security dispatch as needed
  • Assist in providing on-the-job training and orientation for newly hired Security Guards
  • Assist ESH management in enforcing hospital rules, regulations, policies, and statutory law

Who should apply?

Applicants with a valid driver's license and one of the following:
  • One year of experience as a Security Guard 1 in state service
  • High school diploma or GED and two years of experience in areas of work, such as security guard, correctional officer, store investigations, police officer, police reserve officer, military police, or other law enforcement work
  • A certificate of completion in a basic law enforcement training program approved by the Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission AND one year of experience in areas of work, such as security guard, correctional officer, store investigations, police officer, police reserve officer, military police, or other law enforcement work
  • A certificate of completion in a police or reserve police academy or military training program AND one year of experience in areas of work, such as security guard, correctional officer, store investigations, police officer, police reserve officer, military police, or other law enforcement work
