The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the critical role of Pharmacy Assistant located in Centralia, WA. This is a full-time day shift position with Sat/Sun off.
This position supports the agency, health services, and pharmacy mission by providing pharmacy assistant support for DOC Pharmacy Services within the Department of Health Pharmacy Assistant Scope of Practice. The assistant works with the technician team to support and assist the pharmacists in providing quality, timely, accurate prescriptions with appropriate electronic and hard copy documentation in accordance with Federal and State regulations, DOC policies and procedures, and the scope of their license and job class. Pharmacy Assistants play an integral role in ensuring quality and safe, health services and continuity of care for DOC patients. This postion is a critical element of facility security due to the highly complex and sensitive correlation between health needs, illness, and full timely access to appropriate pharmaceutical therapy.

Duties

Perform, under supervision, a variety of routine technical duties related to preparing and shipping prescriptions in accordance with Federal and State regulations, DOC policies and procedures:

  • Oversee pharmacy shipping and receiving.
  • Assist with refill processing throughout bays, printing labels and filling refills when there is no change to the prescription.
  • Assist in surveillance and screening of outdated medications and supplies.
  • Assist in pre packing medication and performing double checks as needed, checking runs for broken tablets, missing tablets, empty bubbles, etc.
  • Assist with receiving medications and stocking shelves.
  • Assist with daily workflow as directed by lead pharmacy technicians and pharmacist supervisors.
  • Counts, pours, and fills bubble packs and/or prescription vials from stock bottles for individual orders, under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Assist in operating and utilizing the prepacks machines for re-packing solid dosage forms, after technicians have set up their machines with the correct drug runs.

Communicate effectively verbally and in writing:

  • Ensure all communication is accurate, respectful and within the scope of your professional responsibilities and expertise.
  • Provide quality customer service.
  • Protect the confidentiality of all protected health information and personnel information as mandated by law, professional standards, and DOC policy.
  • Read and respond to email daily.
  • Communicate issues appropriately according to the operations responsibilities flowsheet.
  • Workflow related issues are communicated to the lead technicians.
  • Assists with sending shipment notifications of medications to facilities upon absence of Technician 2.

Be a contributing and supportive team member of the pharmacy team and the total health services team:

  • Demonstrate consistent and punctual attendance.
  • Assist with the typing of standardized POS/US orders with the accuracy allowing the processing of POS/US orders by the technician.
  • Adhere to workflow processes.
  • Exhibit flexibility when assignment adjustments occur.
  • Follow the directions of the lead pharmacy technicians and pharmacist supervisors.
  • Attend team and staff-wide meetings.
  • Seek feedback and give others constructive feedback.
  • Practice fiscal responsibility.

Ensure cleanliness of Central Pharmacy:

  • Ensure cleanliness of all bathrooms within Central Pharmacy.
  • Stock the bathrooms with toilet paper, paper towels and cleaning supplies as needed.
  • Ensure garbage’s are emptied on a daily basis.
  • Ensure supply shortages and needs are appropriately communicated to Administrative Assistant.
  • Ensure prompt washing and drying of lab coats discarded in the “dirty receptacle”, with rapid turn around to the replacement of those coats onto the hangers.
  • Ensure sweeping and mopping of the Central Pharmacy is completed to minimize excess slip, trip, and fall hazards.
  • Assist with cleaning efforts within the pharmacy and pharmacy storage areas.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • Current State of Washington Pharmacy Assistant License
  • Ensure license is renewed in accordance with WSPQAC regulations and that proof of current licensure is provided by the renewal date to facility leadership.
  • Skills: Able to demonstrate pharmacy skills competently.
  • Demonstrates competent verbal and written communication skills.

Desired/Preferred qualifications:

  • Two (2) years as a pharmacy assistant expierence.

  • Salary is based on experience and is determined at the time a final offer of employment is made. The salary range listed in the job posting includes Steps A-M. Step M is a longevity step and is typically gained six years after being assigned to Step L in your permanent salary range.
