Location: Chehalis, WA

Salary: $38.61 - $63.29 Hourly, $80,616.00 - $132,156.00 Yearly. The posted salary does not include an on-site 24/7 facility 5% premium. Supplemental shift differentials are applied for weekend hours, swing shift, and between the hours of 11pm-7am.
Work hours: On-call work is intermittent in nature and does not fit a particular pattern. The work hours/days are dependent upon business needs. Part-Time is 30 hours per week.

The Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) is looking for Registered Nurses to perform activities and interventions that promote health, wellness, and safety for residents and staff at Green Hill School, a Juvenile Rehabilitation maximum security residential facility.

The Opportunity:
We need your nursing skills to take charge of emergency medical situations and act as a liaison between the community and residents providing professional nursing services for youth committed by the courts to a secure juvenile rehabilitation institution. As an important member of the Health Center Team, you will treat residents according to physician orders, and encourage resident accountability using the integrated treatment plan.
Some of what you'll do
  • Provide professional nursing services including assessment and evaluation of medical problems.
  • Perform initial medical screening at youth intake and complete patient discharge summaries at time of release.
  • Assist physicians, psychiatrists, and other professional medical providers in the examination, diagnostic testing, treatment, and record-keeping of youth.
  • Implement and document all physician orders.
  • Provide medical case management for youth with chronic or acute conditions.
  • Communicate with and instruct non-medical agency staff on treatment and care of youth.
  • Recognize and report risk indicators by youth (e.g. self-harm threats, medication refusal, or misuse.)
  • Educate and counsel residents regarding medical and mental health care.
  • Implement infection control program/protocol requirements as identified in statutes, rules, and related JRA policies.
  • Confer with a physician for direction relating to testing and treatment of infectious diseases.
  • Provide first aid and first response emergency medical services for youth, institution employees, and visitors.
  • Prepare and administer medication
  • A document provided health care and patient response to treatment in medical file and electronic medical database and ensures youth medical files are kept up to date.
Required qualifications:
Professionals who hold a valid Washington State license to practice as a registered professional nurse.
AND
Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing, AND one year of professional nursing experience.
OR
Equivalent education or experience.
Degree must be obtained from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or foreign equivalent verified by a NACES-approved organization at naces.org.
Foreign Equivalency certification must be attached to the application for degrees obtained outside the U.S. Incomplete applications may be screened out of the recruitment process.
In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following:
  • Demonstrated understanding of adolescent development and juvenile rehabilitation practices and principles is preferred.
  • Demonstrated competency in relating to clients from diverse backgrounds and cultural groups.
