State of Vermont is Hiring a Corrections Vocational Instructor Near St. Albans, VT

Overview

The Vermont Department of Corrections is looking for a Corrections Vocational Instructor at the Northwest State Correctional Facility in St. Albans.

Corrections Vocational Instructors help with career training and skills development for incarcerated individuals in a variety of career paths. You'll be working with individuals in a shop setting with direct hands-on learning or in a classroom to help earn Industry Recognized Credentials (IRC) such as:

  • OSHA 10 Requirements
  • NCCER requirements
  • ServSafe Requirements

As a Corrections Vocational Instructor, you'll assist with the delivery of the ACT WorkKeys assessment, give technical instruction and education individuals in various career fields including but not limited to welding, carpentry, electrical, maintenance and more. The State of Vermont DOC uses FOCUS software for attendance, grading, and progress notes on individuals. You will also assist with facility enrichment events related to employment and other community services.

Qualified candidates should have previous experience in vocational services delivery or have extensive knowledge in career trades. Ie; electrical, plumbing, welding, etc.

Hours are Monday through Friday 8am to 4pm, with some travel required outside of NWSCF.

Corrections Vocational Instructor report to the Workforce Development coordinator.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in an institutional setting with constant exposure to and interaction with Incarcerated Individuals residents. Incumbents must be able to operate shop machinery, lift and carry moderately heavy equipment, and supervise correctional facility inmates. An incumbent should possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation AND five (5) years or more experience at an apprenticeship level in trades

OR

High school graduation and experience work with a vocational training program, experience in delivering vocational training AND one (1) year or more of experience as described above. Certified in training i.e. NCCER.

Preferred Qualifications

Experienced vocational instructors with a proven track record.

Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
