With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital, 220 Faison Drive, Columbia SC 29203.As the Pharmacy Technician, you will apply advanced knowledge performing under limited supervision, duties to support the professional staff of the pharmacy department of the Bryan Psychiatric Hospital. You will demonstrate an understanding, compassion, and sensitivity to the pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, and psychiatric populations served.Responsibilities for this Pharmacy Technician include but are not limited to: Prepares/processes/delivers medications including all automated dispensing cabinet (ADC) fills, refills, and pended medications, leave and discharge orders, patient personal medications (PPMs), controlled substances, bulk items, and unit stock orders.Assists with inventory functions and performs daily ADC maintenance of external return bins. Completes and documents assigned monthly inspections of emergency kits and medication storage areas inside and outside of the pharmacy.Repackages medications sufficient to maintain adequate inventory levels and maintains associated documentation to meet regulatory, recall and inventory requirements.Maintains mandatory training requirements, including SCEIS, PPD, MAPS and CPR refresher training, cultural and population-specific compliance, corporate compliance, IDPAA compliance, harassment-free workplace and time and attendance policies.Maintains current pharmacy technician registration and certifications, where applicable. Understands and complies with all policies and procedures affecting the scope of practice and the pharmacy department's operational procedures. Adheres to all state, federal and department regulations governing pharmacy matters.Participates in committee functions, staff meetings, and performance improvement activities as assignedCommunicates effectively, demonstrates professional phone etiquette, and reads email regularly. Provides guidance and support for drug distribution to co-workers, and students.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
State Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and prior work experience as a pharmacy technician. Agency (Facility) Minimum Requirements: A High School graduate or the equivalent, successful completion of a pharmacy technician certification examination, experience in the care, storage, and dispensing of medications and in interpreting/transcribing of physician's orders for patient medication, etc., and/or successful training in a pharmacy technician program.Note: If any Agency Requirements are listed above, applicants must also meet those requirements to be considered for the position.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
The selected candidate Extensive knowledge of medications to include use, possible side effects and /or reactions, dosing information, etc. Ability to transcribe and interpret medication orders. Working knowledge of Federal and State laws regulating the practice of pharmacy. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with others. Possess a valid driver's license. Ability to lift/carry/push up to fifty (50) pounds, may be required to lift more during times of emergencies. Ability to stand, walk, reach, pull, push, stoop, bend and climb at least two (2) to three (3) flights of stairs. Must have manual dexterity. Provide emergency care (CPR) to patients of cardiac/respiratory arrest and utilize MAPS in specific situations as warranted.The South Carolina Department of Mental Health is an Equal Employment Opportunity Agency.
