Job Responsibilities

1. Monitors campus activity continuously. Investigates accidents, complaints, disturbances, and any suspicious activity. Prepares written reports.
2. Maintains traffic control, safety, and organization of parking on campus and assists contracted security officers with special event parking.
3. Enforces all State and local laws and college rules and regulations.
4. Locks and/or unlocks campus buildings and requested areas on an as-needed basis.
5. Responds to fire alarms or other emergency calls: assists in building evacuations renders first aid to injured, disperses crowds, and reroutes spectators around disturbances and fires.
6. Supervises contracted security officers when requested by the Campus Police Chief.
7. Inspects campus buildings for hazards to students, employees, and visitors, report unsafe conditions and recommend corrective actions.
8. Completes specific public safety and security tasks as directed by the Campus Police Chief and authorized college personnel.
Minimum and Additional Requirements

High school diploma.
Preferred Qualifications

Must be 21 years of age and have a High School Diploma with two years of work experience in law enforcement. Certification as a police officer by the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, a college degree, and law enforcement experience in a college setting.

Employee will be required to wear a uniform and equipment, look neat, and maintain a professional image. He/she may be required to work rotating shifts as needed or overtime. He/she must occasionally travel for training. The employee must be physically capable of performing job functions and duties. This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, and some heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and fingering; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word and conveying detailed or essential instruction to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; vision acuity is required for depth perception, night vision, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, use of measuring devices, observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold and heat, noise, vibration, hazards, and atmospheric conditions. This worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
