State of South Carolina is Hiring a Highway Maintenance Worker - Crew Leader (61035432) Near Horry County, SC

Operates heavy equipment such as backhoe, front-end loader in cleaning ditches along state right of way to ensure adequate drainage; and in the installation of sideline, crossline, and driveway tiles. Operates medium equipment such as tandem dump truck in the hauling of various materials such as pipe, asphalt, dirt, sand and coquina which is used in the maintenance of state highways and right-of-ways. Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic to protect workers, general public, and equipment. Acts as a lead worker of maintenance crew involved in various maintenance activities such as ditching, patching, paving, installation and repair to catch basins and other drainage structures. Serves as a supervisor in the absence of foreman of small ditching crew; keeping records of work performed and materials used and directing other employees in proper techniques. Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations, may include extended hours and/or 12 hour shifts. Two (2) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position. The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work hours outside the normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental related emergencies.
